Plein air painting is resurgent around the country as artists rediscover the joys of painting and observing directly from nature. Whether your primary goal is to exclusively paint outdoors, or whether most of your painting is done in the studio, this workshop will help sharpen your eye and hone your skills.Lisa Egeli will teach her approach to capturing nature’s light and beauty through painting outdoors. Emphasis will be on beginning with a well-drawn and composed scene, and progressing to a harmonious painting capturing the light and color of the scene. Students will start the day with a demo by Lisa and then begin their own work. Each day will close with critiques of the day’s work.

About the Instructor
Lisa Egeli’s paintings are moving and sophisticated portrayals of the places we treasure. Her landscapes and portraits, in oil and pastel, have been featured in many exhibits and permanent collections in her two decade professional career. Her life as a painter, however, began long before, growing up a third generation artist in a family of artists, and learning her earliest skills from her father, portrait and maritime painter Peter Egeli. Lisa’s formal training was at the American Academy of Art in Chicago . Her work has been recognized in a variety of distinguished regional and national events, including Plein Air Easton , Paint Annapolis, Oil Painters of America’s Regional and National Exhibitions, and Arts for the Parks. Lisa has been juried into “Plein Air Easton ” for three years in a row, and in 2007 was awarded “Best Pastoral Painting” by Juror Kenn Backhaus. In 2008 she was among 30 artists nationwide selected to participate in “Telluride Plein Air” in Telluride, Colorado . In 2008 her painting “Low Tide, Zanzibar” was juried into the 14th Annual Exhibition of the American Society of Marine Artists, which will travel to six museums on the East Coast. Lisa Egeli lives by the shores of the Chesapeake Bay for most of the year and lives and paints in South Florida for the winter. www.lisaegeli.com
