CONFECTION – A Charity Bake Sale Art Exhibition
O.H.W.O.W. proudly presents CONFECTION
Opening February 13, 2009 – Pres Rodriguez brings the local artistic community together in this one-of-a-kind Charity Bake Sale Art Exhibition to benefit the Daily Bread Food Bank. Over twenty artists will contribute to this anything goes exhibition including Jim Drain, Aranzazu Gayoso, Michael Genovese, Jason Hedges, Alvaro Ilizarbe, Susan Lee-Chun, Nick D. Lobo, Justin Long, Lee Materazzi, Hugo Montoya, Bert Rodriguez, Leyden Rodriguez-Casanova, TM Sisters, Jen Stark, Jonathan Thomas and Kyle Trowbridge.
With a slew of surprises in store, this bake sale will be anything but what you have experienced at the local church. Live performances by Waterford Landing, Remote Controllers (DJ Healer and Chris Video) and Dino Felipe. Come one, come all and definitely come hungry!
ABOUT O.H.W.O.W.: Aaron Bondaroff and Al Moran’s Our House West of Wynwood (O.H.W.O.W.) is Miami’s most exciting high profile art space. Designed by Rafael de Cardenas of Architecture at Large, the venue features prominent international and U.S. based experimental art as well as innovative contemporary art forms through an alternative cross-disciplinary perspective.
ABOUT JIM DRAIN: Miami based Drain works with large-scale sculptures, furniture works, collages, photographs, wallpaper and stained glass. He is exhibited internationally.
ABOUT ARANZAZU GAYOSO: Aranzazu is a Mexican artist and recent graduate of Goldsmith’s college of the University of London.
ABOUT MICHAEL GENOVESE: Born in Chicago, Michael gives life to a lost art, hand painted signs. He champions simple momand- pop street commerce by painting signs for those who can’t afford them and has developed a new artist-in-residency project that puts the living artist studio on display via webcam.
ABOUT JASON HEDGES: A Miami based artist who’s work centers primarily around food. Hedges works with different mediums to create sculptures, art installations and paintings.
ABOUT ALVARO ILIZARBE: Peruvian born Ilizarbe creates drawings and t-shirts. He runs a website www.freegums.com where you can view his latest artistic output, oddball videos.
ABOUT SUSAN LEE-CHUNG: Lee-Chung is a performance-based artist currently based in Miami. Her body of work incorporates performance, video, and installations.
ABOUT NICOLAS LOBO: Originally from Los Angeles, Nick works with mixed media and has exhibited at North Miami MoCA and Placemaker Gallery and Locust Projects, among others.
ABOUT JUSTIN LONG: Justin works with mixed media and performance art.
ABOUT LEE MATERAZZI: Visionary Lee Materazzi is known for creating unordinary scenarios using her mother and sometimes friends as subjects and then photographing them. Courtesy of Spinello Gallery.
ABOUT HUGO MONTOYA: Hugo is a photographer who uses light and music as main sources for his work. He has presented exhibitions in Art Basel Miami and a solo show in Miami’s David Castillo Gallery.
ABOUT BERT RODRIGUEZ: Miamian Rodriguez has exhibited his art installations at the 2008 Whitney Biennial and Frieze Art Fair. His work is included in the permanent collection of the Kemper Museum. Courtesy of Fred Snitzer Gallery.
ABOUT LEYDEN RODRIGUEZ-CASANOVA: Cuban born Casanova creates 3 dimensional sculptures and installations. He has exhibited in New York and Miami and internationally in Basel, Switzerland, as well as Latin America. Courtesy of David Castillo Gallery.
ABOUT TM SISTERS: The sisters collaborate in mediums of video, digital video, interactive video, collage, social experiments, clothing and installations.
ABOUT JEN STARK: Miami Native Jen Stark creates vibrant sculptures using stacks of colorful construction paper. She also draws and creates animations. Jen exhibits her work nationally.
