Bike Miami Days: Last Event of the Season Returns to Downtown on Sunday, May 17
-Local Businesses, Non-profits, Community Groups to Participate-
Bike Miami Days, Miami’s largest free and family-friendly street party, will return to Downtown Miami for its last event of the dry season. Downtown Miami streets will be CAR-FREE from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm so that people can explore the heart of Miami on foot, by bicycle, on a skateboard or any other form of self-propelled transportation. The event, created by City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz in November 2009, seeks to reconnect people with the urban core by giving them the opportunity to explore it in a new way. Downtown businesses, local non-profits and cultural organizations are invited to promote their services before thousands of expected participants.
Bike Miami Days is an initiative by Mayor Diaz to promote community, livable streets, bicycling and walking. The event is not a race so there is no official beginning or end point nor registration.
ALL official activities are completely FREE and will include:
• Dance Contests for kids and adults; Prizes will be 6 brand new bicycles
• Public Rally on the Steps of the County Courthouse at 11am
• Expanded Children’s Corner, featuring bounce houses, face painting, arts and crafts
• Yoga and Stretching classes
• Live music throughout the streets, including Classic Rock covers by VIVA, and Latin Jazz Trumpet by Renior
• International Village, showcasing the consulates and cultural institutes of Miami
• Bike Clinics
• Bike Valet Services
• Street Performances by Jugglers, Unicyclists and Balloon Artists
• And much more, to be announced soon.
