Opening of Egyptian Gallery at Bass Museum of Art Increases Museum Membership by 40%

On Thursday, April 29, Bass Museum of Art inaugurated the only Egyptian Gallery in Florida at their members-only premiere event, A Night at the Museum. The gallery is a new, permanent collection at the museum, and it offers a unique opportunity to learn about one of the world’s oldest and most mysterious civilizations from its surviving objects, including an Egyptian sarcophagus and mummy! Additionally, the gallery showcases thirteen objects of Egyptian antiquity including a gift to the museum and long-term loans from the Brooklyn Museum, Lowe Art Museum and private collections.

The evening also featured informal curator-led talks by Dr. Edward Bleiberg, Curator of Egyptian, Classical and Ancient Middle Eastern Art at the Brooklyn Museum and Consulting Curator to Bass Museum’s Egyptian Gallery. Drinks and desserts were courtesy of GREY GOOSE Vodka, Bervini Prosecco and Stella’s Sweet Shoppe with music by DJ Tavin Reiter. A Night at the Museum also included a raffle for various prizes, including a limited edition IKEPOD watch designed by Marc Newson – the Solaris SCW22, Art Basel Miami Beach 2010 VIP Package and a select Taschen Books package.
