Center For Folk And Community Art Seminar And Art Exhibition
About Challenges Children Face In Their Daily Lives

On Tuesday, August 17th, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Center for Folk and Community Art (CFCA) artists Dena Stewart and Stewart Stewart will facilitate a special seminar for 30 children ranging in age from 4 to 12 who are part of the “Around the World†weekly summer art program at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden.
For a project called “Challengesâ€, this year CFCA artists facilitated their national model Telling Stories Through Visuals workshop program with youngsters in elementary through high school. Workshop participants wrote stories about their daily challenges and illustrated their writings with detailed pictures.
The “Around the World†summer program uses art to teach children about the cultures of different countries.
CFCA’s interactive seminar will use the tapestry of stories and art created by participants in their “Challenges†project to engage the children in the “Around the World†program in a dialogue that addresses the way children in Miami face their challenges as compared to children in other countries.
Tapestry panels will be on exhibit at the Botanical Garden August 16 – 20, 2010
