Peruvian American Chamber Of Commerce Of South Florida To Present “Taste Of Peru”, Debut A Peruvian Pavilion And Offer Seminars At 14th Americas Food & Beverage Show
The Americas Food & Beverage Show hosts its first-ever open to the public event, “Taste of Peru”, a celebration of Peruvian Food, Spirits and Specialties.

The food of the Andes will be showcased, for the first time, at this year’s Americas Food & Beverage Show on October 23 – 24, the weekend preceding the trade show (open to the public), and October 25 – 27, 2010 (trade only) at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The show organizers, World Trade Center Miami, have partnered with the Peruvian American Chamber of Commerce of South Florida (PACCSF) to bring this new element to fruition, which includes cuisine-related activities such as an inauguration cocktail, seminars, dance performances, contests, tastings and cooking demos.

In recent years, Peruvian food has become a global cuisine and is the new darling of the culinary world. In Miami, Florida alone, there’s an estimated 135 Peruvian restaurants. Julio Rodriguez, President of the PACCSF, has made it his mission to promote the innovation and sophistication of the foods and beverages of his native Peru. As such, in addition to the weekend festivities named above, he has organized two seminars, taking place Monday, October 25th. The first, hosted by a renowned Peruvian Chef, will focus on special ingredients, chef secrets, recipes and other like topics. The latter seminar will spotlight how to successfully launch a Peruvian food & beverage business.

The PACCSF will also be debuting the Peruvian Pavilion. According to Rodriguez, eight companies will be exhibiting at the Peruvian Pavilion with coffees, Piscos, beverages, seafood and other food products. “Peru has 84 of 104 ecosystems that exist in the world making its ingredients and dishes as varied as the imagination itself,” said Rodriguez.

“Given the Free Trade Agreement between Peru and the United States, working closely with Peru was a natural choice,” said Charlotte Gallogly, President of the World Trade Center Miami. “The participation of countries like Peru underscores the scope and reach of our trade show as we become more and more international and continue to contribute to cross-border trade.”

Additionally, two Peruvian chef teams will be competing in the VI Annual Americas Chef Competition scheduled for October 26-27, 2010. Visit www.peruchamberusa.com to learn more about the weekend-long Peruvian activities. Tickets available for purchase online at myticketusa.com. For more information, contact the PACCSF at 786-290 2899 / info@peruchamberusa.com.

The World Trade Center Miami is a member of the World Trade Centers Association which is the preeminent global trade organization promoting two-way trade. There are 321 World Trade Centers located in 91 countries with a total membership of 2 million corporate members and associates. In the Western Hemisphere, there are more than 50 World Trade Centers either in operation or in the planning and/or construction stage.

The 14th Americas Food and Beverage Show will include approximately 300 exhibitors from the Americas and other parts of the world and 6,300+ buyers. Countries/regions such as Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Ecuador, Haiti, Jamaica, Malaysia, Peru, Poland, Russia, South Korea, Spain and the USA will participate. The 14th Americas Food and Beverage Show is sponsored by American Airlines, the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Farley Aguilar The Fates Debut Gallery Solo Exhibition 10/9/10

Spinello Gallery: 155 NE 38th Street, No. 101, Miami, Florida – 33137
Solo: Farley Aguilar | “The Fates”
Opening Reception: Saturday, October 9th, 7-10pm
Exhibition through November 3rd, 2010.

Spinello Gallery is proud to present the much-anticipated solo debut gallery exhibition of Farely Aguilar, “The Fates.” The exhibition features a suite of haunting and mystical oil paintings, works on mylar, and video.

Fate: the principle or determining cause or will by which things in general are believed to come to be as they are or events to happen as they do. Unknowable forces from within us and outside of us determine the course our existence will take.

Aguilar’s works are representations of this fatalism. The Fates are composed of three sisters, each having a part in determining human destiny and are all represented in his latest series. Aguilar explains, “Clotho, the youngest, spins your lifeline; Lachesis, the middle one, decides the length of your lifeline; Atropos, the eldest, cuts your life thread.” All human endeavor is based on fighting against the power of fate. Science, religion, art, etc.., tries to establish stability, or control, over the precarious circumstances of existence. The eternal search to create truth causes more destruction than harmony. This is one of the fundamental contradictions of human nature. Ulf, an old Norse term for wolf, is the predominate subject within Aguilar’s latest narrative. He is a pawn of fate at the micro level, or individual scale. His dual nature of both wolf and man create contradictions that he cannot understand. Aguilar notes, “Shakespeare’s Macbeth had a great influence on the show and Ulf is a stand in for Macbeth. The witches, or Fates, conjure up spells on him. He must endure the destiny that has been casted upon him.”

Agustina Woodgate Growing Up Performance Featuring Anthony Spinello At Miami-Dade Public Library 10/7/10

One Night Performance: Agustina Woodgate | “Growing Up”
Miami-Dade Public Library: 101 W Flagler Street, Miami, Florida – 33130
Thursday, October 7th, Doors open at 6:30 pm / Performance begins at 7 pm

Spinello Gallery is pleased to announce a one night improvised photo/performance by Agustina Woodgate featuring Anthony Spinello at the Miami-Dade Public Library.

This time Woodgate invites the audience to witness, “Growing Up”, based on the English fairy tale “Jack and the Beanstalk.” She will activate Miami’s main house of books as her storytelling stage where forgotten library treasures will play. Anthony Spinello will be joining the artist for the first time as Jack in this one night theatrical performance.

Fairy Tales are the first stories we hear and are meant to enchant and entertain. They offer us a mean of addressing psychological and behavioral issues. Every performance has a long progressive narrative. The actions of the performers, typically the artist and a family member, are directed by a musical score assisting the audience to feel a variety of moods, tensions, or dialogues. In each performance the endeavor has been to distill the action to the basic components of the primary message behind each tale. “Fairy Tale” series is an ongoing series of Photo/Performances that began in 2008.

Agustina Woodgate explores the social narratives of human relationships, rather than independent and private space, as a theoretical and practical point of departure. She creates responses to these narratives through situations that unveil the tensions between the natural-becoming-unnatural, and the unnatural-becoming-natural as constructions of our surreal and very real human condition. Her work discovers illogical scenarios that appear in an otherwise realistic or even “normal” setting to explore transience in beliefs and behaviors, revealing unconscious liaisons between these two worlds. Working with available, at hand, and everyday resources contributes a very important element of the conceptual process. Woodgate works inclusively and socially, finding new access points for communication to create public, intensive, and process-oriented works. She approaches the creation of a work as an ongoing discovery, and fold chance-elements, surprises, and synchronicity into everything she makes.

Angel Vapor Opening Reception at Edge Zones 10/9/10

ANGEL VAPOR CONSTRUCTIONS
October 9
Edge Zones Art Center
47 NE 25th St, Miami, FL 33137

Edge Zones Art Center proudly presents Constructions, the second solo exhibition of Angel Vapor (La Havana, Cuba, 1970) at Edge Zones. The exhibition will open on October 9 and will run until November 6, 2010. The art critic Anne Tschida says of Vapor’s work ” whether it is sculpture, drawing, or painting, is at an elemental level about perspective and process: The process of construction, and by extension, about deconstruction — of objects, of space, of lives. Vapor continues to explore this process in his latest solo show at Edge Zones.

Vapor crafts his exquisite pieces out of bronze, clay, and oil paint, but in these constructions there is always a tension. That’s part of the beauty of his work; the materials and references are rigid and hard, but the ultimate result feels more fragile and fluid. Like in a delicate piece, a small sculpture made of bronze, where a disembodied arm protrudes from the wall — clearly a woman’s arm — and from her fingers hangs a bomb, but ever so tenuously, as it is only string that ties the two together. Life and death are hanging from a thread.

Strings attached to a hand reveal another aspect of process, that of the manipulator of lives and society. As an artist who was raised and educated within the tight political, physical, and emotional confines of the Cuban state, this part of the “construct” is never far from the surface. Sculptures positioned in vaguely military stances or movement, reflect another state in their facial composure — that of an inner detachment from this imposed outer structure.
Vapor plumbs the architecture of object and space, so he assembles his figurative works very precisely within the gallery setting. The placement and lighting of the artworks and their relationship to one another are critical to the overall perspective.

And like anything under construction, in these artworks something is left unformed — maybe a patch of surface area, or a foot. Like life, Vapor’s pieces are never static; there is a sense of movement created from the tensions within and the placement in their surroundings. In the end, New Constructions remind us of the true liberating power and beauty in art.”

Angel Vapor is a prolific artist whose works include paintings, sculptures, prints, public commissions and drawings. Vapor’s work has been exhibited internationally with critical reviews in El Nuevo Herald and is included in art books such as WET 2, (Edge Zones Press Miami). He studied at the National School of Visual Arts (ENAP), Havana, Cuba and at the Academy of Art, St. Alejandro (Habana, Cuba). His work has been frequently on display in galleries and cultural institution in and outside Miami, FL. There were solo exhibitions by his work in Jhoon Rhee Gallery, Washington, D.C., Ism, Gallery, Miami and in Carmen de la Guerra, Madrid, Spain. His commission pieces are on display in several places in the City of Miami, FL and in San Valentin, León, Spain.

The Bass Museum of Art is pleased to present The Nudist Museum by Ellen Harvey.
harvey showcases nudes that represent purity, titillation, truth, comedy, beauty, love and ugliness as well as simple representations of the human body. october 2 – november 7, 2010

The Bass Museum of Art is pleased to present The Nudist Museum by Ellen Harvey.
Ellen Harvey’s Nudist Museum uses the Bass Museum’s collection to reveal a wide variety of different historical paradigms of nudity. By copying every nude in the collection, which includes paintings, drawings and sculptures from the Middles Ages to the present, Harvey showcases nudes that represent purity, titillation, truth, comedy, beauty, love and ugliness, as well as simple representations of the human body. The fifty-four resulting paintings are far from exact copies. The nudes were copied from the museum’s documentation rather than from the originals, with the result that the level of detail in each painting strongly reflects the resolution of the source documentation. The images were also cropped to accentuate the nudes and Harvey chose to paint everything other than the human body in monochrome. For sculptures and drawings, Harvey randomly assigned flesh colors to the bodies depicted. The ornate second-hand frames have been painted so that the paintings appear to be spilling out of the canvas, alerting the viewer to the fact that the apparently conventional salon-style installation of old paintings is not what it seems. Similarly, upon closer inspection, the wallpaper behind the paintings can be seen to contain small examples of nudity found in today’s mass media, creating a humorous contrast between the world-views of the paintings and that of the world in which we live. The project is a continuation of a recent series of exhibitions in which Harvey redefines different gallery and museum spaces at the same time that she challenges the audience’s perception and understanding of the artworks that occupy such spaces.
The Nudist Museum will be on view October 2 – November 7, 2010 with an opening reception on October 2 from 3-5pm. Free to members and basspass and cost of admission to the museum for non-members.

Ellen Harvey was born in the United Kingdom and lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Her work began to gather attention over a decade ago, when she “tagged” graffiti sites around New York City with small oval oil landscapes for The New York Beautification Project, which was subsequently published as a book by Gregory Miller & Co. Her work has since been the subject of numerous publications and periodicals. She has exhibited extensively in the U.S. and internationally and was featured in the 2008 Whitney Biennial. Her most recent solo exhibitions were Picturesque Pictures at Galerie Gebruder Lehmann and The Doppleganger Collections at Galerie Magnus Muller in Berlin, Germany. She is represented by Locks Gallery in Philadelphia, Stephan Stoyanov Gallery in New York, Meesendeclerq Gallery in Brussels, Belgium, Galerie Gebruder Lehmann and Galerie Magnus Muller in Berlin, Germany.

Naughty Volvo Tour Volvo S60 Preview Experience 10/2-3/10

‘Naughty Volvo Tour’ Expands by Incorporating Drive Events into the All-New Volvo S60 Preview Experience
Miami: Gulfstream Park Race Track, October 2-3, 2010
More information about the Naughty Volvo Tour.

Consumers in Miami, Philadelphia, Chicago and Los Angeles can get behind the wheel of Volvo’s new sport sedan before it enters showrooms later this month

Volvo Cars of North America, LLC (VCNA) will host special consumer drive events to showcase its all-new S60 sport sedan as it was meant to be experienced – on the road. These events are part of the Naughty Volvo Tour – a series of experiential events to preview the S60 – which began in July and will continue through November.

“Initial feedback from the Naughty Volvo Tour has been extremely positive and has resulted in nearly 200 S60 pre-sales to date, which is impressive considering no one’s had the chance to drive the car yet. It really speaks to the strength of the car’s beautiful new design, the enthusiasm of our loyalists and Volvo’s reputation,” said Doug Speck, VCNA president and CEO. “We really focused on the driving dynamics to make the all-new S60 our sportiest Volvo ever so we’re excited to hear what people have to say once they drive it!”

The drive events will allow prospective buyers and car enthusiasts to take on the S60’s 300 horsepower T6 engine with AWD in a series of performance activities like a slalom demo, suspension bumps, an “S” cornering exercise and a timed autocross. They can also experience Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake, Volvo’s groundbreaking technological solution which utilizes a radar- and camera-based system to detect pedestrians in front of the car, warn the driver if someone walks into its path, and then automatically activate the S60’s full braking power if the driver fails to respond in time.

Attendees can participate in a competition to win an Apple® iPad, and will also be entered into a contest to win an all-new Volvo S60 and a trip to Sweden.

Ritz-Carlton South Beach
Miami Beach, FL
October 8 to October 10, 2010

Blogalicious Weekend, the largest blogging conference celebrating diversity in social media, will host its second annual conference at the Ritz-Carlton South Beach in Miami, FL from October 8 to October 10, 2010. The three-day event dedicated to celebrating diversity in social media will bring together a group of savvy, influential and talented women bloggers to share ideas and inspiration in the context of Web 2.0.

Founded by Mamalaw.com bloggers, Nadia Jones, Nyasha Smith and Stacey Ferguson, Blogalicious Weekend was launched after these three practicing attorneys, who between them have seven children, realized that there was a dearth in the blogosphere when it came to the multicultural voices of women bloggers. “We believe this is an exciting opportunity to discuss the importance of blogging across ethnic communities,” says Mamalaw Media Group. “The conference will once again ignite a sense of unity within the multicultural blogging community, as well as educate marketers on the importance of our demographic in today’s marketplace, all while networking, building relationships, and promoting inspiration and success for each other.”

Blogalicious 2010 is expected to have an attendance of hundreds of social media influencers from various backgrounds. Featured workshops include Marketing to Women of Color, Building Your Social Media Tribe and The Value and Metrics of Diversity at Conferences.

Marc Morial, president of National Urban League is set to appear as one of the keynote speakers. World renowned Show from Spain gives locals a ghoulishly entertaining spectacle

On October 8th , Miami will be invaded by monsters, ghouls and goblins, when Circo de los Horrores U.S.A. debuts for the first time to American audiences from Spain. Seen by more than two million people throughout Europe and South America, this live touring production is a unique blend of human circus and horror featuring world- class acrobats, dancers and Cirque Du Soleil-like specialty acts from around the world.

“Miami is known as the Gateway to Americas and we are excited to bring this global touring show to the U.S. for the first time,” said Francisco Santos, CEO of Full Moon Productions. “We are looking forward to transforming Miami into a city of ghouls.”

All throughout Europe, Circo de los Horrores has been called a mix of circus and theater. With an ominous setting that will first whisk spectators through a haunted corridor, the experience is set to lead them into a world of the super natural. Thereafter, the audience is introduced to a graveyard scene—the unknown awaiting, and spine- tingling horror rearing its head at every corner.

Ghoulish acts range from stunning aerial acts and elevated tightrope performances, to breathtaking acrobatics and comical audience interactions. Contortionists, jugglers, acrobats and clowns lurk through an eerie mist rising from below. Their disposition Circo de los Horrores unmistakably mirroring that of the living dead as they carry onlookers to a Gothic cemetery set in the 19th century. Slowly, screams pierce through the darkness and lumps form over throats as creatures from beyond the grave zealously creep ahead. Many will be passed through guillotines; others will have knives hurled at them. Some will be enclosed in cages and still others will be restrained in straitjackets. With a bloodcurdling environment and a predisposition to shriek, the end result is an explosive cocktail of scream, thrill and awe.

RA Sushi in South Miami presents October menu promotions and events line-up

RA SUSHI IN SOUTH MIAMI PRESENTS OCTOBER
Promotions & Events LINE-UP

RA Sushi, the stylish sushi restaurant and bar in South Miami, is pleased to announce its October 2010 menu promotions and events line-up including International Sake Day, “RA-ctoberfest” or what the Japanese call “Nihonshu no Hi;” its ONEHOPE and Pink Roll promo benefitting the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.; the introduction of its newest roll, The King James; and its Halloween celebration entitled “Boo Bash.”

RA Sushi in South Miami’s October 2010 menu promo and events line-up:

Oct. 1-31, 2010: International Sake Day/“Nihonshu no Hi”
Fall, specifically the month of October, represents a beginning in the sake world: the start of a new brewing term. For this reason, Oct. 1 is known as “Nihonshu no Hi” (Sake Day) in Japan or International Sake Day throughout the rest of the world. In order to honor this special holiday, RA Sushi in South Miami will be celebrating “RA-ctoberfest” with a $9 unique and appetizing sake flight menu offered to all guests during the entire month.

Sake is a traditional Japanese rice wine that may be paired with different dishes, similar to wine pairing. Each sake has its own numeric rating. This rating can help sake novices decide which variety to try first. This number is usually listed on the bottle and is included on RA’s drink menus. The lower, negative numbers mean the sake is sweeter and heavier. The higher a positive number is, the drier the sake will be. Please see below for a simple breakdown of sake ratings:
Sake Meter Value (Nihonshu–Do):
· Sweetest (–20)
· Driest (+10)
The special sake flights will feature the following premium cold sakes:
Tozai “Living Jewel” Junmai (+6): Complex aromas of white grape, anise and a hint of sweet rice flavor with a clean, dry finish
Hakutsuru Sayuri “Little Lily” Junmai Nigori (-11): Coarsely filtered sake with hints of coconut and melon with a smooth, creamy finish
Kizakura “Pure” STARS (-18): Kizakura “Pure” STARS is produced with a secondary fermentation in the bottle, much like Champagne. Unique and festive for celebrating any special occasion or simply an everyday treat, Kizakura “Pure” STARS is sweet, crisp and effervescent. OCT. 15-NOV. 15, 2010: ONEHOPE and Pink Roll Promo
From Friday, Oct. 15 to Monday, Nov. 15, all RA Sushi Bar Restaurant locations will donate 100 percent of the profits from the sale of the “ONEHOPE and Pink Roll” special to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. (NBCF).

The NBCF’s mission is to save lives through early cancer detection and to provide mammograms to those in need. ONEHOPE is a California wine company that donates half of its profits to breast cancer awareness, among other causes.

The “ONEHOPE and Pink Roll” special will be offered for $15 and includes ONEHOPE wine and the signature Pink Roll. The Pink Roll features shrimp, kani kama crab mix and sriracha combined with lettuce, avocado and cucumber wrapped in pink soy paper and served with a pink strawberry sauce. The roll is paired with a glass of ONEHOPE 2009 California Chardonnay.

The shrimp tempura, crab mix and cucumber rolled and topped with red beet tempura flakes and drizzled with a sweet eel sauce not only sports the basketball team’s colors, but will also be sold for $6 reminiscent to LeBron James’ jersey number. The roll will be available for the entire season starting on Oct. 26, 2010 through April 13, 2011.
