The event is the third special event that the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce/ Leadership Miami Project “Miami in Motion†organized to raise community awareness, advocacy, and support for ARC Project Thrive. ARC Project Thrive is an accredited school in Florida City that serves children with developmental delays and disabilities, as well as at-risk children and mainstream students. The children enrolled in the school are 6 weeks to 5 years of age in the day school program, and 6 to 11 in the after-school and summer programs. Children’s developmental conditions range from speech and language delays to autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, and genetic and chromosomal disorders.
Understanding how difficult it is for families to raise and provide quality time, education, and meaningful activities for their own young children, the Leadership Miami “Miami in Motion†team wanted to do something different and unique for families whose child was born with a disability and/or special health needs, and they are! In January, Miami in Motion organized for thirty children with a developmental disability to interact, paint, create, and learn from local artist Gorge Rodez. On Thursday February 24, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the RODEZart Gallery in CocoWalk, 3015 Grand Ave. Suites 236 & 237, ARC student art work and packages ranging from one-of-a kind experiences to exquisite trip packages will be displayed and auctioned to the highest bidder. Event proceeds will be used to afford the Children’s Therapy Room at the ARC Homestead facility and other items needed for the children.
Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce “Miami in Motion†Leadership team believes in community awareness and support and that “together, we can enrich the lives of children and families with special needs and make our community a better, stronger, more hopeful place to live.â€
