Children’s developmental conditions range from speech and language delays to autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, and genetic and chromosomal disorders.

Understanding how difficult it is for families to raise and provide quality time, education, and meaningful activities for their own young children, the Leadership Miami “Miami in Motion” team wanted to do something different and unique for families whose child was born with a disability and/or special health needs, and they are! In January, Miami in Motion organized for thirty children with a developmental disability to interact, paint, create, and learn from local artist Gorge Rodez. Influenced by the sound of Art Rock and power pop , DIS take you on a sonic journey with 3 minute pop songs with progressive rock intricacies .Their songwriting is mature and their live shows have earned them the right to hold their own opening for legendary acts like Todd Rundgren, Adrian Belew, Mumiy Troll, and Davey Jones.”Dreaming in Stereo 2″ is the followup to 2010’s critically acclaimed self titled debut which was a college radio staple charting in over 30 major markets. The band has been selected to showcase at SXSW 2011 in Austin, TX

Jennifer Kaiser Bio
Jennifer Kaiser is an emerging singer/songwriter and native Miami Beach resident. Her new album of original material, “Masquerade” (Forward Motion Records), showcases her strengths as a burgeoning talent in the South Florida musical scene and encompasses a variable who’s who of South Florida’s musical talent.
Before even graduating high school, Jennifer’s obvious talent landed her an internship at Deston Entertainment, owned by renowned American songwriter Desmond Child (Bon Jovi, Kiss, Aerosmith, Ricky Martin). With the experience of Child’s guidance under her belt, Jennifer began writing for and with local artists including renowned vocal trainer and writer Beth Cohen, and Marty Cintron of pop group No Mercy amongst others. A 2003 stint as the singer/songwriter in rock band The Pinball Playboys, with lead guitarist Giovanni Vitanza (elusive singer/songwriter of 1990’s Los Angeles rock band the Coma-Tones), furthered the depths of her experience as a performer and writer.
As a student at Miami Beach Senior HIgh school at age 15, Jennifer’s path first crossed with fellow student and now-near-patriarch of the Miami original music scene, Fernando Perdomo (of Miami-based group Dreaming In Stereo and proprietor of Forward Motion Records). Their common love of all things music sparked a natural chemistry, culminating in a series of acoustic gigs in 2001 where they were featured at the prestigious, but short-lived, Billboard Live in Miami Beach.
From their early association, Perdomo made for a natural fit as the producer on “Masquerade.” A special project close to Jennifer’s heart, “Masquerade” features material with origins in a 1999 trip abroad to Paris, where the free-spirited artist found the inspiration for the songs “Paper Doll” and “Pretty Boy.” Fast forward to 2010 where the augmented collection of material attracted not only Perdomo, who serves as producer and bassist, but also celebrated session-drummer and artist Derek Cintron (of Miami-based band DC3), Nothing Rhymes With Orange producer Ryan Sambrook on piano, organ and synthesizer and Dreaming In Stereo alumni Dave Torre on viola. Lead guitarist George Chavles (of Los Angeles rock bands The DI’s and The Red Devils) came “out of the woodwork” to participate in the project ,and vocals on the material were produced by none other than Grammy-Award winning engineer Felipe Tichaeur, whose credits include Christina Agulera and he has recently written and produced latin pop song that is currently #8 on Billboard.

Marek Hewryk Redefines European Luxury By Betty Alvarez

Canadian skin care specialist, Marek Hewryk, opened the most elegant and exquisite skin care boutique, HEWRYK with his two brands: Marek Hewryk and 4VOO in the epicenter of the “city beautiful” on Feb. 3 with a fabulous by-invitation-only red carpet event that was attended by city officials, dignitaries, A-listers and celebrities. Miracle Mile was the place to be- to experience the HEWRYK.

HEWRYK boutique offers a fresh, modern, and chic venue for both women and men to shop for luxury skin care products containing sophisticated ingredients. Taking a break from typical cosmetic stores that offer products for variety of tastes, HEWRYK boutique is designed to cater to women and men seeking exceptional quality skin care products with the most advanced formulations. Both brands, Marek Hewryk and 4VOO have been available in many countries in department stores such as Harrods in London, Galleries Lafayette in Paris, and Isetan in Tokyo. Never before had they been available together in a specially designed setting which fully reflects their creator’s philosophy. Now this will come to fruition in South Florida and in what many consider one of the most if not the most lovely area of the city.

In 2003 Marek Hewryk released 4VOO Distinct Man – a premium skin care line designed specifically for men and then in 2009 a luxury brand, Marek Hewryk for women. Since inception, both brands have become the world’s leading skin care treatment, contributing immensely to the burgeoning market of luxury skin care and cosmetics; they became favorites among celebrities and royalties. After surveying the landscape of skin care boutiques, Marek Hewryk discovered a powerful demand for new luxury and new ideas. “I wanted to provide women and men with an elegant new shopping experience – unlike anything they’ve felt before,” says president and founder, Marek Hewryk. “I know they’ll love my boutique, it’s sophisticated, it’s luxurious and it’s designed to compliment a glamorous lifestyle.” Owner commissioned work of very well know designers while creating his HEWRYK boutique.

Hewryk believes that personal touches he offers, like luxury shopping experience, personal consultations, or even development of fully customized skin care products will make a difference; of course the last one is by an appointment only. He already has an impressive list of his personal clients that adore his products. Hewryk had the dream to create a unique skin care boutique that would highlight his exclusive and luxury products for both women and men from which every single one was developed by him. As an applied chemist and biologist, Hewryk creates his products with the most sophisticated and powerful ingredients such as silk, pearl, orchid, numerous natural botanical extracts, and biochemically active peptides, some of them with platinum. He also developed Marekâ„¢ 116 a unique technology he employs in his product creation.

HEWRYK boutique is located at 57 Miracle Mile (breezeway) in Coral Gables and open from Tuesday to Saturday from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM. More information is also available on the web at: www.Hewryk.com

Lemon City Cemetery Memorial Garden And Monument Dedication Presentation 2/15/11

Lemon City Cemetery Memorial Garden And Monument Dedication Presentation
February 15, 2011, 9:30 AM
Village Carver
485 NW 71st Street
Miami, FL 33150

A dedication ceremony for the memorial garden and monument at the site of the recently discovered Lemon City Cemetery, where 523 Black people are buried many of who were Bahamian and early founders of Miami. The event will begin with a procession at 9:30 am led by The Progressive Cornet Band directed by Donnie Brown and the Singing Angels directed by Dr. Richard Strachan. At 10 a.m., Dr. Enid Pinkney, chair of the Lemon City Cemetery Community Corporation, and Alfred Sanchez, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Miami, will speak on the rich history of the Lemon City Cemetery and their work to preserve the memory of many of Miami’s Black pioneers

In April of 2008 human bones were discovered at the construction site for the YMCA of Greater Miami’s affordable housing project in Miami, Florida. It was found that these bones were from Black people, many of whom were Bahamians, and early founders of Miami.

The City of Miami had no record of a Cemetery being in this location and had given the Developers, Carlisle Development Group and Biscayne Housing, permission to build affordable housing on the land. The controversy resulted in the formation of the Lemon City Cemetery Community Corporation to stop further development of the property and ensure respect for the dead. The Y and the Developers agreed to revise their construction plans and not move the remains to another cemetery. They further agreed to turn the rest of the cemetery which had no construction on it into a memorial garden with a monument to the 523 people buried there and build the additional two planned apartments in another area of the Y’s property.

On February 16, 2010 the Lemon City Cemetery Community Corporation, the Developers and the Y celebrated the Local Historic Designation of the Cemetery which was granted by the City of Miami’s Historic Preservation and Environment Board on November 3, 2009. Over two hundred people attended the program. The Lemon City Cemetery Corporation has applied for a 501c3, sponsored a Charrette to determine plans for the Memorial and Monument and meets on a regular basis to achieve its goals.

The YMCA of Greater Miami
With branches throughout Miami-Dade and upper Monroe County, the YMCA of Greater of Miami is one of South Florida’s leading not-for-profit organizations. The Y engages the South Florida community to nurture the potential of children and teens, improve the nation’s health and well-being, and provide opportunities to give back and support neighbors. Focusing on strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y offers services such as youth sports, aquatics, after-school, preschool and child care, summer camp, health and fitness programs, and membership. For more information about the YMCA of Greater Miami, call toll free 1-877-WOW-YMCA or visit www.ymcamiami.org.

Lemon City Cemetery Community Corporation
The Lemon City Cemetery Community Corporation started out as the African American Committee of Dade Heritage Trust, which later became the Lemon City Cemetery Task Force and now has been incorporated. The first meeting was held on May 25, 2009 at Jefferson Reaves Park to discuss strategies to deal with the discovery of the Lemon City Cemetery. Finding family members of the deceased, applying for historic designation, inviting elected officials to our meeting and getting the community involved were strategies suggested to deal with the situation. All meetings have been open to the public. The LCCC adopted a resolution which was presented to and passed by the Historic Environment Preservation Board of the City of Miami in July. The LCCC prepared and presented a preliminary historic designation report for the September meeting of the HEP Board. That report was accepted unanimously by the Board in October.

Knight Arts Challenge Contest Opens For Applications Through March 2, 2011

Knight Arts Challenge Contest Opens For Applications

Starting today, South Floridians can begin applying for a share of millions in funding through the fourth annual Knight Arts Challenge. The community-wide contest to find the best ideas for the arts in South Florida is sponsored by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

Applications will be accepted through March 2 at KnightArts.org.

There are only three rules for applying: The idea is about the arts; the project takes place in or benefits South Florida; and applicants must find other funding to match the Knight Foundation grant.

Individuals, nonprofits and for profit organizations are eligible to apply.
In just three years, Knight Foundation has invested $17.5 million in projects for the Challenge, which aims to bring South Florida together through the arts. Local arts supporters are doubling that amount with matching funds.

In 2010, the winning ideas included commissioning original films telling unique Miami stories through the Borscht Film Festival, exposing 130,000 Miami-Dade students to the arts through an annual field trip and promoting traditional Haitian art through a youth training program in Homestead.

“This contest is about innovative ideas, artistic excellence and inspiring our community. The best projects will help weave culture into the everyday fabric of this region. We want to hear from everyone with a great idea,” said Dennis Scholl, Miami program director for Knight Foundation, who leads the initiative.

Have an idea? Visit www.KnightArts.org through March 2. The two-question application is designed to be simple to attract applicants who aren’t traditional grant seekers.

ArtCenter/South Florida presents The Architecture of Drawing Masters Jacob Brillhart and Errol Barron Opens 2/25/11

Artcenter Deconstructs Architecture:
The Roles Of Drawing And Painting In The Digital Age
Masters Jacob Brillhart and Errol Barron Exhibit Two Generations of Works
Friday, February 25 at 7:00 p.m.
ArtCenter/South Florida
800 Lincoln Road at Meridian
Miami Beach, FL

ArtCenter/South Florida is proud to present The Architecture of Drawing, an exhibition illustrating the role of hand-drawing and painting in the digital age. Curated from more than 100 sketch books of two artists from two generations, Jacob Brillhart AIA and Errol Barron FAIA, this show examines the tradition of drawing as both a recording device and a cognitive or brainstorming tool used in design. The opening reception will take place on Friday, February 25 at 7:00 p.m. at ArtCenter/South Florida (800 Lincoln Road at Meridian, Miami Beach), and the exhibit will remain on view through April 3, 2011, free and open to the public. For more information please call 305.674.8278 or visit the website at www.artcentersf.org.

“The Architecture of Drawing is an important show because it gives viewers the opportunity to see how traditional fine art skills can enhance and complement the use of today’s cutting edge technology,” said Jeremy Chestler, ArtCenter’s executive director. “With great architecture and design happening around us, this show offers a window into the creative processes that often take place behind the scenes and when developing concepts.”

Jacob Brillhart and Errol Barron, who both respectively teach drawing and design at University of Miami and Tulane University, believe that drawings done digitally and by hand are not mutually exclusive activities but deeply complementary and symbiotic. Their joint exhibition of how observation influences design will be comprised of sketchbooks, paintings, design drawings and architectural models that explore the interrelationships of drawing, painting, and architecture.

Jacob Brillhart, AIA
Jacob Brillhart has built his career as an architect, painter and professor of architecture. He is currently a full-time Lecturer at the University of Miami School of Architecture where he has taught all levels of Design Studio, Freehand Drawing and Mechanical Drawing. Brillhart is also an integral teacher of the Rome program and leads students in drawing and design studios throughout Europe, where he continually conducts drawing research.

In the Spring of 2010, Brillhart served as the Favrot Visiting Professor at the Tulane School of Architecture. Having earned his Bachelor’s of Architecture from Tulane University and his Masters in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University, Brillhart has been influenced by both teaching traditions, and his architectural practice, Jacob Brillhart Architect, P.A., is formed around the interchange of research, exploration and progressive design. A LEED AP, he is also engaged in sustainable building practices and was honored with the 2009 AIA Miami Design Merit Award for his “Mechanical House.”

In 2010, Brillhart was nominated as a finalist for the Rome Prize in Architecture; he was also a Gabriel Prize finalist in 2006 and 2007 consecutively, and received first prize in the 2006 Miami Beach Life Guard Tower Design Competition for which he was featured in The New York Times. In 2009, Brillhart participated in a joint exhibition entitled Visual Thinking in the Digital Age at the University of Miami.

Errol Barron, FAIA
Errol Barron is a senior member of the faculty and the Favrot Professor of Architecture at the Tulane School of Architecture. He is a graduate of Tulane and Yale Universities and has taught a wide range of courses including Theory, Design Studio, Professional Concerns, Introduction to Architecture for Non-Majors and Drawing.

An acting principle of Barron/Toups Architects, his work has been published widely and is recognized for design excellence. A number of his award-winning projects include the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, the Oliver St. Pe’ Center for the Blind at the University of New Orleans, and St. James Church, which was awarded a national design award by the American Institute of Architecture.

While maintaining a professional practice and bringing the direct experience of the office to the school, Barron has also had a separate career as a painter. This interest in drawing, painting and its interrelationship with the design process has become more compelling in the current digital world. His work has been exhibited at many institutions, including a collection which toured from 2004 to 2006 in the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, The Alexandria Museum of Art, The Bakersfield (Ca.) Museum of Art, the Louisiana State University Architectural Gallery and the University of Tennessee Architecture gallery.

The Louisiana Endowment of the Humanities awarded Barron a grant in 2004 for the publication of the book, “Observations – Drawings, Paintings and Architecture of Errol Barron”. In 1994, he was made a Fellow in the American Institute of Architects, and was also the winner of the Gabriel Prize, awarded by the Western European Architecture Foundation to study and draw French architecture.

Miami Art Museum Opening Reception The Wilderness 3/26/11

Miami Art Museum Presents The Wilderness
Saturday, March 26, 6-9pm
101 West Flagler Street
Miami, Florida 33130

The Wilderness opens with an exhibition preview and conversation with exhibition artists David Brooks, Christy Gast and Allan McCollum.
MAM members free, non-members $20.
For details contact events@miamiartmuseum.org.

March 27 – June 26, 2011
Miami Art Museum presents The Wilderness, a thematic group exhibition exploring the real or imagined boundaries between tamed and untamed nature. On view March 27 through June 26, 2011, the exhibition grapples with competing definitions of “wildness,” pitting traditional conceptions of a chaotic, primordial realm that awaits human subjugation against the idea of a self-regulating order that courses through the natural world.

“The works included in The Wilderness raise fundamental questions about humanity’s relationship with nature,” said MAM Associate Curator René Morales, curator of the exhibition. “In different ways, each work dramatically underscores the intertwinement of nature and the human sphere, while evoking some of the psychological, political, ethical and ecological ramifications of our historical tendency to conceive of them as separate entities.”

The Wilderness features a focused selection of film and sculptural installations, each with its own dedicated space, by artists Darren Almond, David Brooks, Tacita Dean, Christy Gast and Allan McCollum – in addition to works by Matthew Buckingham, Aramis Gutierrez and Fernando Ortega.

At the center of the exhibition is a large-scale installation by Allan McCollum titled The Event: Petrified Lightning from Central Florida (with Supplemental Didactics) (1998). To create this ambitious work, the artist joined forces with a team of geologists and electrical engineers from the University of Florida’s International Center for Lightning Research and Testing near the small town of Starke, Florida. McCollum and his collaborators spent several weeks triggering lightning strikes with the use of small rockets, which were attached to copper wires that directed the lightning bolts down to containers filled with sand from the area. The process resulted in the creation of numerous “fulgurites” – small glass objects that bear the same form of the bolts that created them. The artist then worked with a local souvenir manufacturer to create thousands of replicas of a single, selected fulgurite, which are arranged in a jaw-dropping display together with thousands of specially produced booklets dealing with fulgurites, lightning and the project itself.

In collaboration with the Florida Keys Wild Bird Center, CasaLin Pine Rocklands and the de la Cruz Collection’s artist-in-residence program, David Brooks created a new, site-specific commission for the exhibition. Titled Still Life with Stampede and Wild Seabirds, the project poignantly juxtaposes the wildlife of our imaginations (represented here by the type of concrete animal sculptures that adorn many South Florida lawns) with the real wildlife that struggles daily to survive amid and at the edges of the local urban environment.

In Darren Almond’s eerie video installation Arctic Pull (2003), a lone figure is seen laboriously dragging a sledge across the permafrost while battling the intense wind, cold and gloom of a pitch-dark Siberian night. The work poetically recalls the harrowing journeys of Arctic explorers in the 19th and early 20th centuries while suggesting, in a broader sense, the historical trope of humanity’s epic struggle to conquer the world’s unknown territories.

Another major work in the exhibition is Christy Gast’s Batty Cave (2010). In this three-channel video installation, the artist uses rocks, scraps of wood and bits of broken glass to relay a folkloric narrative of two men who built an ark in a dusty, remote mountain cave deep in the Utah desert, in preparation for a second biblical flood that they believed would wash away the human world.

The Wilderness also features Tacita Dean’s ethereal 16mm film Banewl (1999), in which the quiet calm of a rural pasture is gradually disturbed by the onset of a solar eclipse. Several moments before the eclipse occurs, the behavior of the animals in the scene becomes erratic, providing subtle testimony to the mysterious levels of perception that animate the natural order – the secret presence of wildness that courses through even the tamest of landscapes, just beyond the thresholds of human comprehension.

Miami Art Museum will offer special tours and discounts for members of local environmental and conservation organizations. For participation information visit miamiartmuseum.org or email tbelcher@miamiartmuseum.org.

About the artist:
A descendent from Spanish and Guarani Indians, Victor Espinola was born into a family of musical talents from Paraguay. He discovered his love for music by the age of seven after his father gave him a guitar. At the age of 10, Victor began to learn the skill of playing the World famous Harp. He honed his skills on the harp as well as vocals, and eventually was asked to perform in many Latin American countries such as Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Ecuador. By the age of seventeen he had the opportunity to tour for two years in Europe, playing in Switzerland, Italy, Austria and Germany. This won him recognition as one of the best harpists in the world. Victor now composes, produces and performs his original music. With his unique blend of Flamenco, Gypsy, Brazilian, Middle Eastern, Afro, American Pop and Dance music, he is in demand everywhere he plays. “I never seen anybody play the harp like that… he is Virtuoso” is a quote from Yanni the first time he saw Victor playing. Yanni invited Victor to be part of his 2003/2010 World Tour. Victor’s agenda is without boundaries, and his only quest is to continue sharing and spreading his music to many cultures around the world.

Vernissage evening to welcome connoisseurs, socialites and collectors

On February 4th, visitors from Southwest Florida, the United States, and Europe will gather to welcome the 15th annual American International Fine Art Fair (AIFAF) to the Palm Beach County Convention Center. The Fair commences on Friday, February 4th with a Vernissage evening beginning at 6:00pm for invited VIPs and hosted by Wilbur and Hilary Ross, co-chairs of the fair’s Connoisseurs and Collectors Committee. Complimentary wine and caviar tastings and hors d’oeuvres during the “First View” will be presented by sponsors Black River Caviar and Opici Wine.

Introducing a new component to the Fair this year, AIFAF will feature important dealers of modern 20th century design to its impressive list of exhibitors. Todd Merrill Antiques (New York), will exhibit American and European vintage furniture from the 1920’s to 2000 including a pair of quietly opulent serpentine front dressers by American architect and designer Samuel Marx, a magnificent black resin and malachite coffee table by Ado Chale, a wall hung sculpture front console and a welded steel club chair by Paul Evans, and a pair of European walnut and marble pier tables attributed to Gio Ponti. Barry Friedman Ltd. (New York) will present a bevy of contemporary 20th century art, including cutting-edge furniture, studio glass, ceramics, and photography by international artists Anne-Karin Furunes (Norwegian), Ingrid Donat (French), Wendell Castle (American), Michael Glancy (American), Ian Ingram (American), Gottfried Helnwein (Austrian), Michael Eastman (American), Shiro Kuramata (Japanese), and Ron Arad (Israel).

Jewelry is always an especially popular component of the fair. In a bid to expand its annual collection of exciting jewelers, the fair invited David Webb (New York) to join its always sterling roster of jewelers. One of the leading jewelry designers of the 20th and 21st centuries, David Webb’s stylish and avant-garde designs bridge the styles of the past with the current creating unique and timeless pieces that can often be found gracing the necks of red carpet regulars and in the exclusive collections of the worlds rich and famous. Long-time exhibitor Graff Diamonds (London) will once again present the most extensive collection of haute couture jewelry to be found in any single location.

AIFAF will continue to offer exciting major exhibitions in its role as one of the preeminent fine art and antiques fairs in America. With diverse exhibitions from many of the worlds leading dealers – including this year a one-artist exhibition of more than 25 later period paintings by Renoir from Hammer Galleries (New York) – the fair features artwork of all periods including ancient art, old masters, impressionists, modern and contemporary works.

The fair has become a cultural and social highlight of the Palm Beach winter season. Spanning two weekends this year, it offers collectors a longer period to enjoy the annual exhibition. On Tuesday, February 8th, the fair will celebrate the Norton Museum’s 70th anniversary with complimentary fair admission for museum members and guests and complimentary shuttle service between the museum and the fair.

MDC’s Miami Leadership Roundtable presents Valerie Plame Wilson and Joseph Wilson

(Please note this is a new venue.)

COST: The price for a single ticket is $35 and a table of eight is $275. Seating is limited.
Online registration is available at http://mdcalumni.com/netcommunity/Plame-Wilson.

Miami Dade College (MDC) will present its renowned Miami Leadership Roundtable with a couple that took on a former United States president’s administration and won. Now, MDC students and guests will be able to attend a conversation with Former CIA covert operations officer, Valerie Plame Wilson, and former Acting Ambassador to Iraq, Ambassador Joseph Wilson, on Wednesday,February 9, at 8 a.m. at The Ritz-Carlton Coconut Grove. (Please note this is a new venue.)

Plame worked to protect America’s national security and prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in her role as a covert CIA operations officer. Without warning, in 2003 she found herself at the heart of a political firestorm when senior White House and State Department officials revealed her secret status to several national journalists. A subsequent investigation exposed what some call an act of treason. Plame is the author of Fair Game: My Life as a Spy, MyBetrayal by the White House. She is now a public advocate and respected authority on issues of national security and counter-proliferation.

Ambassador Wilson’s historic career in international relations spans more than three decades with service under five U.S. presidents. He was hailed “a true American hero” by President George H.W. Bush for his efforts to free more than 100 American hostages in Iraq prior to the first Gulf War. Under direction from the Bush Administration in 2002, he traveled to Niger to investigate reports that Saddam Hussein had obtained uranium yellowcake for Iraq’s nuclear program. He reported there was no truth to the claims, and his findings ignited a high-profile controversy. In 2004, Wilson chronicled his diplomatic career and battle with the Bush administration in his bestselling book, The Politics of Truth.

The Plame-Wilson ordeal stirred Hollywood filmmakers to create Fair Game, a major motion picture starring Sean Penn and Naomi Watts that is based on the CIA leak controversy.

Throughout the years, MDC’s renowned Miami Leadership Roundtable speaker series has included former U.S. presidents Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford; former vice-president Al Gore; former first-lady Barbara Bush; former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev; former Russian Prime Minister, the late Yegor Gaidar; former Polish President and Nobel Prize winner Lech Walesa; Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar; Dominican President Dr. Leonel Fernandez; former Colombian President Andres Pastrana; former first lady of Egypt Jehan Sadat; interim Haitian Prime Minister Gerard La Tortue; and Turkish Education Minister Huseyin Celik. Additional notable guests who have also addressed the Roundtable include film director Oliver Stone; journalists Dan Rather, the late David Brinkley, Linda Elberbee and the late Ed Bradley; famed envoy for the Church of England and author Terry Waite, author Tom Wolfe; and many, many more.

Aviation In Miami: The First 100 Years
On View At The Museum From
June 24, 2011 Through January 15, 2012
On July 21, 1911, all of Miami gathered to witness an extraordinary event. Hired by Mayor Everest Sewell, aviator Howard Gill climbed into the cockpit of a wood and cloth-winged biplane furnished by the Wright Brothers and flew it up, up and away into the blue skies above the Miami Golf Links – performing the very first flight in the area. The rest, as they say, is history.
Aviation in Miami: The First 100 Years goes behind-the-scenes to explore the extensive engagement Greater Miami and its residents have had with the industry since this historic first flight. The exhibition addresses the evolving concerns of the aviation industry throughout the twentieth century and how they were tackled by the developers, the promoters, the pilots and the hundreds of thousands of Miamians who were employed or participated in the development of the field.
On view are artifacts from famed aviators such as Glenn Curtiss, Charles Lindbergh, Eddie Rickenbacker and Amelia Earhart and airlines such as Pan American World Airways and Eastern Airlines.

This exhibition features a selection of maps and plates from the museum’s extensive collection – many on display for the first time.
