Miami’s award-winning, self-described Latin funk fusionistas will release their debut recording digitally and on CD Tuesday, March 15th and mark the occasion with a return appearance on WDNA 88.9 FM’s Sound Theory Live program Friday, March 18th.

“We’re excited to be able to finally make our music available online and on CD,” says bassist and group co-founder Michael Mut. “We hope you can join us in celebrating this labor of musical love.” A live broadcast at 7 p.m. from the new music venue The Stage Miami and online at www.wdna.org will preclude a live performance at 11 p.m., also at the Design District entertainment hotspot, located at 170 NE 38th St. The evening’s festivities will also include a set by local folk / rock duo Medina.

Electric Piquete’s release features five original compositions, a cover of the Buena Vista Social Club | Cuban standard “Chan Chan” (one of the band’s live set mainstays) and a remix of the first single “Mother Smother”, by DJ Le Spam. The latter presents the band’s song over which the traditional Yoruban chant “Yemaya Assessu” is sung by Spam All-Stars vocalists Mercedes Abal and Jose Tomas Diaz.

Winners of the Miami New Times’ 2009 “Best of Miami” edition in the “Best Latin Band” category, Electric Piquete’s music will be available for purchase online at iTunes.com, Amazon.com, MySpace, emusic.com among others, plus on CD at the band’s live shows.
