Annual UM Faculty And Student Exhibitions At The Lowe
Will feature a ceramic installation by Ivan Albreht
This spring The University of Miami Lowe Art Museum will host a faculty exhibition highlighting the work of Ivan Albreht. Ivan Albreht: Repetitive Choices will be on view at the Lowe from April 16 to May 29, 2011. On view through May 8, is the first of the yearly two-part student exhibitions, the Annual Juried Student Competition Exhibition. A preview with an artist lecture and reception for the juried student exhibition and Repetitive Choices will be held April 15 at 7pm. The evening will be highlighted with a special lecture by Albreht. A preview reception for the Annual Masters of Fine Arts Candidates Exhibition, on view from May 12 through June 5, will be held May 11 at 7pm. Both receptions are free and open to the public.
Ivan Albreht was born and raised in Belgrade, former Yugoslavia (present Serbia). He is Assistant Professor of Ceramics / Sculpture at the Department of Art and Art History at UM.
Albreht’s current work explores issues of individuality in the sociopolitical context of the western society. He is specifically interested in ways in which technological advancement, consumerism and global politics influence the emergence of an individual. He is engaged in exploring the perception of “beauty†in Western society.
He has actively exhibited both nationally and internationally since 1997. Solo exhibitions include: WeissPollack Gallery in NYC, University of Pittsburg in Bradford, Gallery of American Cultural Center in Belgrade, former Yugoslavia. International competitions include: Ceramics of Europe – The Westerwald Prize 2009, The Sixth Taiwan Golden Ceramics Awards 2001. Bibliography includes: full feature articles in Ceramic Review (London, UK) and Ceramics Art and Perception (US and Australia), inclusions in books: Contemporary Ceramics (Thames and Hudson, 2009), 500 Ceramic Sculptures (Lark Books, 2009), as well as numerous catalogues. His work has received significant recognitions, including Special Prize at the 4th World Ceramic Biennale 2007 Korea (CEBIKO), the largest and most competitive juried international exhibition in the field of ceramic arts.
In 2009, Albreht was nominated and elected as member of International Academy of Ceramics (IAC) based in Genève, Switzerland. He has also participated in several artist residency programs in the United States and Europe.
The exhibition is organized by the Lowe Art Museum.
The Lowe Art Museum is located at the University of Miami at 1301 Stanford Drive, Coral Gables. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 12 to 7 p.m. Thursdays and 12 to 5 p.m. Sundays.
