In celebration of National Poetry Month and the University of Wynwood’s community-wide poetry event, O Miami in April, Next@19th invites writers, poets, creative minds and the brave to take out their soapbox and share with audiences.
Inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996, National Poetry Month is now held every April as an occasion for publishers, literary organizations, schools and poets around the country to join hands in recognition of poetry’s eminent place in American culture. Next@19th proudly invites literary lovers from all walks of life to contribute their own written works as part of Heebster Haiku’s ongoing program.
Heebster CHaiku features its house band, Treif (a Yiddish word meaning not kosher) who groove between poems and open up for a participatory jam after the poetry – bring your own instruments to jam.
Next@19th was founded in July 2010 to engage South Florida’s diverse community in fresh culture, learning and spiritual experience through a Jewish lens. Producing original programming, the organization will host a range of events and activities. This 2010 – 2011 season promises celebrations of music, literary arts, visual art, education and spirituality as well as dynamic projects in partnership with Miami Book Fair International, the Jewish Film Festival and University of Wynwood. Next@19th is located at 137 NE 19 Street, Miami FL 33132, on the campus of Temple Israel’s historic site in downtown Miami.
