Cernuda Arte features Three Outlooks in Cuban Art, a joint exhibition by three remarkable Cuban painters from today’s contemporary scene:
Giosvany EchevarrÃa, Miguel Florido, David RodrÃguez
The show- free and open to the public – inaugurates with a Gallery Night Reception
Friday, May 6, 2011 7 p.m. – 10 p.m
Arranged in stylistic and thematic groupings, these leading mid-career artists exemplify highly individualistic languages within the figurative approach. Commonalities among them reside in technical virtuosity and creative vitality. The exhibit will be on view through May 30th.
Giosvany EchevarrÃa, a landscape artist inspired by his countryside surroundings, reveals his quest to depict splendid vistas in outstanding works. Reminiscent of a romantic tradition in this genre, his paintings have a timeless sense of existence, encouraging the viewer to ponder on the sublime.
Miguel Florido’s still lifes, wrinkled papers and meadows are executed with great skillfulness, as much as they are lyrical and emotionally powerful. The painterly quality of his canvases – which often crystallizes into striking contrasts of light and shadow – typify the artist’s interest in creating a poetic dialogue between realism and abstraction.
David RodrÃguez is great at marveling the mundane and the significant with equal strength. His bold use of flattened hues and enigmatic motifs translate into delightful renditions that seem to stream from the subconscious. A distinctive feature of this artist’s talent is his capacity to portray atmospheres of drama and open interpretation.
Also on view, a group show by 20th & 21st century artists with works by, Wifredo Lam, Mario Carreño, VÃctor Manuel, Amelia Peláez, Carlos EnrÃquez, Mariano RodrÃguez, AgustÃn Cárdenas, Gina Pellón, Ramón Vázquez, Vicente Hernández, Sandro de la Rosa, Joel Besmar, Irina Elén González, Dayron González, among others.
