The Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami, Artistic Director Pedro Pablo Peña and American Airlines will present the premiere of the full length ballet La Fille Mal Gardee starring Cuban Principal Dancers Lorena Feijoo and Rolando Sarabia / Fernanda Oliveira and Arionel Vargas from the English National Ballet (dancing in Miami for the first time), with fabulous sets and costumes from the Russian Grand Kirov performance and also “Paquita Suite.”
La Fille Mal Gardee is a full length French ballet in two acts with choreography and libretto by Dauberval. It is one of the most perfectly constructed ballets of the 20th century, with its seamless mix of humor and tenderness, classical dance, and mime. There will be a short lecture about the history of classical ballet before the performance. A Question and Answer session will follow the performance for students to interact with professional dancers and learn to appreciate this form of art motivating them to attend ballet performances in the future.
Founded in January 2006, The Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami�s main objective of showcasing recently exiled Cuban principal dancers as well as those already residing in Miami. The Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami has developed a relationship with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools and Knight Foundation to participate in their educational initiative giving students a cultural field experience. More than 2,000 children from grade 7 will experience La Fille Mal Gardee full-length ballet dress rehearsal on May 13, 2011 at the theater.
