In her brief career, cut tragically short at the age of thirty-nine, Larisa Shepitko established herself as a leading voice in sixties and seventies Soviet cinema. Her work is rich in both image and narrative with a particular skill in evoking her characters’ interior worlds. Wings / Krylya is the story of Nadezhda Petrovna, a once proud fighter pilot in the Soviet Union forced to retire to a life of routine as a provincial schoolmistress. Unable adjust to her new life, Nadezdha finds herself retreating to a life of memory and fantasy. Shot in 35mm in black and white with a running time of 86 minutes, Wings is a forgotten gem of Soviet cinema.
Nomad Film Club is dedicated to screening films in unique spaces through out South Florida and we are proud to have Ironside Campus as our first location. Nestled between the Upper Eastside and Buena Vista neighborhoods, the Ironside Campus site is a mixture of artistry and industry. Coverings, a whole sale marble showroom, will serve as the screening room.
