First Gables Bike Day Launches
Sunday October 23rd, 10am to 4pm
A Free Event On Miracle Mile and Ponce de Leon Fit for Families, Cyclists, Skaters and Pedestrians Benefits Green Mobility Network
Gables Bike Day is the first event to celebrate healthy activities and means of transportation within the limits of the City Beautiful. Miracle Mile Eastbound lanes and Ponce De Leon will be closed to auto traffic from 10am to 4pm and will embrace community, music, food, safe cycling and much more. Gables Bike Day will be held Sunday October 23rd, 2011.
Building on the success of Cyclovia in Colombia, Paris and Miami, Coral Gables jumps on board with a family friendly event opened to the public. Gables Bike Day will kick off at 10:30am with speeches by the Mayor of Coral Gables James Cason and Commissioner Ralph Cabrera on stage at the Ponce de Leon Boulevard (Ponce Circle). The entire route will be activated with plenty of stops for the entire family to enjoy.
1. Ponce De Leon Park:
a. Performances by Actors’ Playhouse shows such as Alexander The Great and more,
b. Live bands,
c. Sebastian the Ibis with the University of Miami mobile unit and more
d. Billy the Marlin, wheel of fortune and prizes
e. VIP lounge at Regions Bank lobby – select number of tickets will be given away on Facebook
f. Raffle of brand new Shwing bicycle, helmets, concert tickets, and much more
2. Miracle Mile by LeJeune Road:
a. Attendees can register for a historic bike tour of Coral Gables, scavenger hunts for children and adults and additional tours to be announced. Registration will be taken on a first come first serve basis.
b. Earth Learning will host a Farmers Market throughout the day.
c. One block East, Miami Bike Polo will be playing matches every hour and will be open to teaching attendees, in between matches, how to play.
3. Miracle Mile by Douglas Road:
a. Children will have a space with games, cartoon characters and bounce houses.
b. Green Mobility Network and Bike Safe, two non-profit organizations, will create an engaging and skill testing bike safety course for children to learn and practice their biking abilities.
c. Nearby, experienced bikers and skaters will be showcasing their talents on ramps and obstacle courses brought by Jay Ramps and One Cool World.
4. Green space next to Barnes & Nobles:
a. Green Monkey Yoga Studio will be offering free classes of yoga throughout the day, also on a first come first serve basis.
5. Additional activities are to be announced during the Preview Party Wednesday October 5th from 6 to 8pm hosted by Pasha’s (130 Miracle Mile).
