Museum guests will enjoy a creative afternoon full of exciting activities for the whole family including art projects, scavenger hunts, art stations, face painting and free prizes. In honor of Halloween, boys and ghouls are encouraged to dress up in costume and enter the museum’s costume contest – a secret surprise will be given to the best costume at the end of the day!

Another fun and eerie addition to the event is the opportunity to view Florida’s ONLY Egyptian Gallery. The 460 sq. ft. first floor gallery offers a unique opportunity to learn about one of the world’s oldest and most mysterious civilizations from its surviving objects, including an Egyptian sarcophagus and mummy. It also showcases the sarcophagi, mummy and fourteen objects of Egyptian antiquity including a gift to the museum and long-term loans from the Brooklyn Museum, Lowe Art Museum and Private Collections. These objects are roughly from the same period as the Bass sarcophagi and provide a representative sampling of what would typically have been placed inside the tomb to assist the dead in transitioning to the afterlife – super spooky! Fun fact for anyone hoping to visit an Egyptian gallery: The next closest Egyptian gallery/sarcophagus is located at Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University in Atlanta, GA.
