Fredric Snitzer Gallery is pleased to announce Speed of Life, the first solo exhibition for gallery artist Mauricio Gonzalez. The exhibition will run from January 10 – February 4, 2012, and an opening reception for the artist will be held at the gallery on Tuesday January 10th, from 6-9pm.
Speed of Life explores the harshness of contemporary society, which leaves little room to fully assimilate and comprehend the jarring events we encounter daily. Vacillating from insecurity, to anxiety, to ecstasy, we experience extreme emotions that often drive us into living lives of both wild– and, as Thoreau stated–“quiet desperationâ€.
Mauricio Gonzalez’s work is a spontaneous response and representation of this chaotic, unpredictable, and precarious modern world. Using found materials, rudimentary methods of construction, and raw imagery, he creates sculptures whose discord, harshness, and even violence defy fixity or repose while they simultaneously tease us with the possibility of a tentative balance and the harmony for which we all yearn.
Fredric Snitzer Gallery is open from Tuesday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm. For more information and images regarding this exhibition, please contact 305.448.8976 or info@snitzer.com. Additionally, please visit us at www.snitzer.com.
