Growing up in South Florida has influenced Katey Penner’s artistic style. The exciting collision of culture, color, and customs has converged into art to create canvases which express these diverse elements. Using a palette knife and a wide array of acrylic paint colors, Katey creates pieces that resonate with passion and life. It has more than 100 multimedia articles and mini-guides on what to do, where to go and how to explore the neighborhood. Most articles in the Discover section are like mini-guides, with topics including cuisine (Cuban, Central American, Spanish, seafood, bakeries and lots more), cigar buying, cigar stores and factories, theaters, clubs, galleries, botanicas, parks, events and much more. There are also glossaries to help you learn about Latin music and dance, tropical juices, tropical fruits and vegies, etc.
A Visit & Stay section shares advice on how to get to the neighborhood (by car, bike, public transit, etc.), where to stay, local tours, and tips for prospective residents. The Cafecito talk section has testimonials from neighborhood fans, photo and video galleries, a link to the site’s discussion board, facts and tips, and fun content like “You Know You Are From Little Havana When …” We like the Engage section, too: It shows you how to get involved in the neighborhood by volunteering, reducing litter, patronizing small businesses, etc.
