After seven years in it’s current location, the Bas Fisher Invitational is moving. The BFI plans to re-open in the fall with new programming focused specifically on our WEIRD MIAMI projects. These projects will link contemporary art with the South Florida community through exhibitions, events, activities, and the WEIRD MIAMI bus tours, our special artist-led expeditions to lesser-known places within Miami.
The final BFI exhibition is a special two week long project by artist and past BFI collaborator Kathryn Marks. Oblivified consists of a large scale hand knit carpet with accompanying drawings.
According to Marks, “The kaleidoscopic chaos of the carpet is an attempt to reproduce the ecstatic hallucinations experienced in the aftermath of epileptic seizures. Time stops as the mind travels into the inexplicable space between awareness and the unconscious. The euphoric disorientation produced is a sort of possession in which color invades the mind and body producing a synesthetic frenzy of sight and sensation.â€
Kathryn Marks is a Miami born artist whose work focuses the breakdown of meaning relating to shifts of context and circumstance. This is her first solo exhibition.
