Fellow Art Center artists please Join us for a PowerPoint presentation and discussion by artist Rosa Naday Garmendia of her recent participation in the X Mural Painting International Biennale, INTER-NOS in Santiago de Cuba.
On this occasion, these latest masterpieces join the 104 such works scattered throughout Santiago de Cuba, making of the city “an open gallery†in the eyes of its inhabitants and visitors.
The event started with exhibitions, theoretical workshops, videos and concerts. Besides the 17 Cuban artists participating there were15 artists from as far as Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, Germany, Argentina, Austria, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, the United States, France, Mexico, and Ecuador. Each year the participating artist vote on the theme, this year it was The Environment and Young Generations. Most of the 6 large murals were located in parks through out the city but also included an elementary school and a hospital fulfilling the event’s goals of bringing culture closer to communities.
“For me, as an artist, the INTER-NOS experience has the great merit of having contributed to the reevaluation of the public spaces of the city, and therefore, the approach of the visual arts relating to the average person outside the frame work of the galleries and museums.†Rosa Naday
