In the 50s “Beatnik†evolved as a media-induced caricature of the ideals presented by the Beat Generation. Stereotyping the individual members of the movement, it became a word synonymous with barrette wearing, poetry reading, cigarette smoking commies.
Turning the tables on the all-powerful media machine, Yo Miami is taking the word back for the people with their new Jazz, Blues, and Hookah infused evening at The Stage.
A mashup of jazz and blues musicians will be brought into the space, transformed for the night to transport you back to the 1950s at the peak of the Beat Generation’s reign.
Depending how the first one goes we’ll see if it’ll turn into a regularly occurring event (monthly or bi-weekly) – Let’s make it a recurring event!
We got Buffalo Brown from Elastic Bond on guitar, Nabedi Osorio from The State Of on drums, and Adrian Gonzalez from Suenalo on keys/bass.
On top of that, Midtown Smokeshop is providing hookahs on site which’ll be $15.
Doors open 9PM
