Daddy Yankee Performs at First Marlins Friday Night Live
April 13, 7:10 p.m
Marlins Park
501 Marlins Way
Miami, Florida 33125
The Miami Marlins’ first Jiffy Lube Friday Night Live will feature a post-game concert with Puerto Rican reggaeton recording artist Daddy Yankee. First pitch versus the Houston Astros is set for 7:10 p.m.
Daddy Yankee did more than anyone to establish reggaeton as a marketable music style during the early 21st century. Yankee’s success was so phenomenal in the wake of his 2004 mainstream breakthrough album Barrio Fino, that it stands tall as the definitive reggaeton album of its time. Boasting a pair of fantastic hits, “Gasolina” and “Lo Que Pasó, Pasó,” the album established the production duo Luny Tunes as reggaeton’s hottest hit-makers. Barrio Fino was also the first reggaeton album to reach number one on the Top Latin Album chart, a position it held for roughly a year’s time while selling over a million copies in the United States alone. Daddy Yankee became more than just a reggaetonero, having transformed himself into an international name brand by the time his 2007 follow-up album, El Cartel: The Big Boss, was released. Other albums include Talento de Barrio (2008) and Mundial (2010). His hit single, “La Despedida†from the Mundial album, reached number four on the Latin Billboard chart. “Ven Conmigo” is the first official single on the Preistige (2012) album and features bachata singer Prince Royce. His most recent hit single, “Lovumba,†which means Love and Rumba, is his way of expressing love through music. It’s no surprise that Lovumba has been on the top charts of Billboard for the more than 20 weeks, ranked #1 in the Latin Urban Chart and Pop Chart and #2 in the Tropical Chart.
