Sweetwater 4th Of July Extravaganza Event To Benefit Autism

Sweetwater’s Jorge Mas Canosa Youth Center
250 SW 114th Avenue
Sweetwater, FL
The D’amor Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Maria Montalvo, the mother of a child with Autism. She found that therapies, such as, art, music and interaction with horses and dolphins were out of reach for most families because they are not covered by health insurance. The foundation’s goal is to help families cope with Autism and Sensorial Integration Disorder by making resources, educational tools and sensory integration therapies readily available.
Currently D’amor is sponsoring 25 children in Taekwondo classes tailored for children with Autism.
The City of Sweetwater is partnering with D’amor to help raise funds to improve the quality of life for children with autism by affording them the opportunity to take part in alternative therapies. As a result, parents of children with autism are making connections and finding a support network.
D’amor Foundation will be holding a garage sale. There have been many donations that include clothes, toys, books and furniture. There is still time to donate lightly used items. Please contact me for more information.
At 6p.m. there will be raffles and free food, drinks and entertainment for the whole family. The night will culminate with a fireworks display at 9 p.m.
Upcoming events for D’amor include the unveiling of a Sweetwater Police car painted to tribute Autism and D’amor Foundation, a D’amor Foundation Latin Nights Gala July 21st and a Fun Day for children with Autism Nov. 3 where the city will host alternative therapies in the park and recreation center.
