More Information
Born in a small village in Northern Italy, Sergio Sigala began his culinary career at the young age of 13, initially driven by the desire to earn enough money to buy a Vespa scooter. Though he was able to purchase his prized ride after just a few months working in a professional kitchen, Sigala realized that cooking came naturally to him. Drawn to food like never before, he began spending more time in his mother’s and grandmother’s kitchens, observing the fundamentals of his native northern Italian cuisine. In 1990, Sergio graduated at the top of his class from the culinary school, Istituto Professionale Di Stato Per I Servizi Alberghieri E Della Ristorazione (IPSAR).
After graduation, Sergio spent a number of years training in a variety of renowned restaurants and hotels throughout Europe, including Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio, Italy; Hotel Steffani in St. Moritz, Switzerland, and Michelin-starred restaurants Al Bersagliere in Goito, Italy, and Ristorante Villa Fiordaliso in Lake Garda, Italy. In 1996, Sigala was hired as Chef of Italian Cuisine at the Sheraton Bahrain Hotel, where he catered private parties and royal weddings at 16 different palaces for dignitaries such as the Sultan of Bahrain, Prince Charles and Nelson Mandela.
In 2000, Sigala was brought on board to open Casa Tua in Miami Beach, where he was involved in all aspects of restaurant development. As Executive Chef, his creativity, leadership and precision in the kitchen helped garner Casa Tua critical acclaim, making it an internationally recognized restaurant frequented by a multitude of world-famous figures, including film stars, musicians, politicians, top models, star chefs and top athletes.
Sigala’s depth of experience, esteemed reputation and considerable talents made him the perfect fit to open Soho House’s latest Cecconi’s restaurant in the club’s Miami Beach location, which debuted in fall 2010. As Executive Chef, he oversees the restaurant’s kitchen and has crafted a menu which reflects his belief that simple is best, and celebrates fresh, high-quality ingredients.
Sigala has been featured in various magazines and newspapers such as Food & Wine, Ocean Drive, Town & Country and the Miami Herald. He and Casa Tua were also featured on the Food Network’s Giada’s Weekend Getaways with Giada De Laurentiis, and has had original recipes published in culinary books such as South Beach Diet, Sandwiches of the World and Summer in New York. In 2003, he was named Rising Star Chef in Miami by Star Chefs.
Sigala lives in Miami and is married with two children. He balances his working life by competing in triathlons and marathons, playing golf and riding his Vespa, even after all these years.
