The South Florida Shandong Association will be holding The Mid-Autumn Festival Reception Honoring Confucius. Two-Time Emmy-Award winning broadcast and print journalist, Julia Yarbrough will emcee the event.
The Mid-Autumn Festival Reception will be honoring one of the world’s most important thinker, politician, educator and scholar, Kong Zi, (aka Confucius).
Born in 551 BC, in Qufu, Shandong Province, China, Confucius is known for his development of the concept of Confucianism (“Ru Jiaâ€) which focuses upon cultivating kindness, courteousness, benevolent rule and personal responsibility as the basis for society.
Confucius’ concepts and body of work has had an enormous influence on the development of philosophy, civilian and governmental structure, religious institutions, and even the military.
In recent years, Confucius’ ideas about how to achieve a harmonious and just society has gained a huge up surge in global interest. Few people, in human history has had as much of a profound influence upon the development of human civilization, as has, Confucius.
Mid-Autumn is a traditional time for family gatherings in China, so there could be no better time for the entire South Florida family to come together and enjoy delicious chinese mooncake and celebrate the life, work and ideas of Confucius.

Since it’s inception, in 1992, as a non-profit organization, the South Florida Shandong Association has become the leading organization in South Florida focused on increasing economic, cultural and social ties between South Florida and one of China’s top economic, social and cultural regions, Shandong Province.
The delegation from the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China will be led by Consul General Xu Erwen. The Consulate General is committed to promote the exchanges and cooperation between China and the southern United States in all fields, to deepen the understanding and friendship between Chinese and American peoples, to protect the rights and benefits of Chinese citizens, and to provide consular services to overseas Chinese in our consular districts and all visitors to China.
