Hora Happening at Miami Jewish Film Festival
The song is instantly recognizable. Hava Nagila (The Movie) which opens the Miami Jewish Film Festival on Saturday, January 26, is a toe-tapping, hand clapping romp through the history, mystery and meaning of a ubiquitous party song that has its roots in the shtetls of Eastern Europe, and has found a cultural re-boot with recordings by Harry Belefonte, Elvis and Connie Francis. Marking its’ sweet 16th year, the ten-day festival brings award-winning national and international dramas, thought-provoking documentaries about cultural diversity and racism, and endearing stories that explore friendship, trust and the art of forgiveness. Special events include Miami’s largest Hora dance on Monday, Jan. 21.
