The Smiles Foundation met again on Tuesday, December 11th 2012, at the popular urban contemporary restaurant, Wynwood Kitchen & Bar from 6:00pm to 9:00 pm to celebrate A Night for Smiles. The Smiles Foundation’s fourth annual event in Miami promised to raise funds for various foundations in Colombia and Bolivia. The collected funds were distributed to local organizations to implement effective projects thanks to the help of Conexion Colombia and Bolivia Smiles Foundation. The night promised to deliver gifts to thousands of children which will bring infinite smiles to many kids, but also, promote education in these rural sectors. And it was a total success, raising a total of $15,000.
The Smiles Foundation (http://thesmilesfoundation.com) is a philanthropic group that seeks to give support, offer economic aid and achieve many smiles. This year, A Night for Smiles offered its guests a cocktail reception at Wynwood Kitchen and Bar, located at 2550 N.W. 2nd Avenue, Miami, Florida. The space offered a unique experience, surrounded by art and a relaxed atmosphere, where guests enjoyed a vast selection of international wines as Marqués de Riscal and Epica, and toasted for this wonderful occasion. The magical portion of the night was the silent auction that offered unique items of memorable value. This year, recognized brands such as Silvia Tcherassi, Avianca and Viceroy Hotel, donated items and services.
The Smiles Foundation was created in 1992 by a group of friends who shared the ideal of offering a Christmas full of happiness to thousands of children in South America. “I watched as many children in Bogotá, Colombia celebrated this date.” said Alfonso Jaramillo, creator of The Smiles Foundation. “Unfortunately it wasn’t in warm homes; instead it was out on cold streets that lacked smiles and gifts. This made me reflect and inspire others.” Inspiration that led to the creation of The Smiles Foundation and its Night for Smiles fundraising event. The annual event follows last year’s resounding success, where it raised more than $12,000 dollars that helped 8,350 children, thanks to 37 donated articles which included an autographed guitar by Shakira. This year it certainly was not an exception. On this edition, Latin stars as Shakira and others, joined the cause and donated to the long and valued list of auction items. As an added feature, the event offered a variety of live shows and activities, where guests shared the main ingredient of the night, a warm smile. The realization of this major project would not have been possible without the valuable collaboration of those people who believed in the unlimited smiles that The Smiles Foundation will bring to thousands of children. Likewise, its production had the valuable support of important allied companies who joined their services for the night’s success.
