Join us at PAX on Wednesday, February 20th, from 4:30pm to 7pm for the grassroots #SMWRoots social media panel, followed by networking and music.

The Social Media Miami Grassroots event brings together some of Miami’s top social media influencers who have utilized social media for projects that benefit the community.

These event organizers recognize the power of social media to motivate, inspire and rally community either for charitable purposes, activism, neighborhood organizing, and/or to bring together thought leaders and audience participants in open-format conferences.

In 2012, Miami saw an explosion of grassroots events, all organized by volunteers, including Philanthrofest, IgniteMiami, Social Media Day (Mashable), HeartCamp, BarCamp, Fashionably Conscious, No Walmart in Midtown, Artists for Israel (Art Basel), LATISM education projects (Latinos in Social Media), Little Havana Tours and History Miami’s Teen Exhibit, to name a few.

The panelists’ experiences may be valuable for small businesses trying to create a more personal style of social media that resonates with community.

Award-winning writer/blogger Maria de los Angeles of Sex and the Beach will moderate the panel, which includes professionals from different fields — from attorneys to realtors, PR professionals and more — all highly skilled in utilizing social media for their own business and volunteer activities: Alex de Carvalho, James Echols, Estrellita Sibila, Blanca Stella Mejía, Natascha Otero, Janie Coffey, Grant Stern, Corinna Moebius, Liza Walton and Muhammed Malik.
