Internationally acclaimed and exhibited artist, Jim Drains will speak about his prolific collection of mixed media, fiber sculpture and kinetic installations that serve as a humorous critique of pop culture and the international consumer world, finding the middle-ground between the maximal and the minimal. Drain creates sculptures by re-purposing and recycling discarded found objects, creating three-dimensional, technicolor works with them, “letting the objects he finds guide him.â€
His artwork has been published in Art in America, Art Forum, The New Yorker and the New York Times, among others. Drain won the 2005 Baloise Art Prize and 2009 South Florida Cultural Consortium prize, and has exhibited nationally, including the 2002 Whitney Biennial, and internationally in exhibitions in France, China, and Italy.
This event is free and open to the public.
Meet and greet with the artist will begin at 5:30pm with free refreshments.
