DADE COUNTY STUDENTS DAZZLE IN A MODERN 1920s MUSICAL ADVENTURE
MIAMI, FL, The Roxy Theatre Group (RTG) a non-profit youth arts program is proud to present Thoroughly Modern Millie. Adapted from the film of the same name (starring Julie Andrews as the titular heroine), this show features a cast and orchestra comprised of 60 students, ages 13-22, and representing over 30 schools and colleges.
Set in Manhattan circa 1922, Millie is the story of a small-town girl who sets out to chase her larger than life dreams. In her efforts to be the most modern of women, she comes across a slew of eccentric, yet lovable, characters. As she makes her way through New York City, Millie must decide if the prospect of an emerald-clad life is indeed more valuable than a green-glass love. The Roxy Theatre Group’s young ensemble and orchestra bring forth a musical extravaganza, complete with high-speed tap choreography that will have you saying Gimme, Gimme more! The music and lyrics for Millie are by Jeanine Tesori and Dick Scanlan, and the book written by Dick Scanlan and Richard Morris.
“I feel that Millie’s story is one that not just I, but all people, can really relate to; anyone that’s ever felt the need to go after their dreams. I am beyond excited to bring her to life and share the stage with an amazing cast and crew!” said Veronica Diaz, 21, playing the role of Millie Dillmount. Diaz is a senior at the University of Miami, where she is currently attaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. She began her studies in dance with The Roxy Theatre Group ten years ago, and along the way found her voice and love of theatre as well.
