“The newly formed instrumental group, Sookie, Sookie, is named after the classic cut from the Grant Green album “Alive!” This soulful live record features Green, a guitarist much better known for his straight ahead jazz style, leading a group that seamlessly blends jazz and funk into one cohesive style. Sookie Sookie, features a group of young musicians with an admiration and respect for this style who are working to maintain and advance the spirit of the music. Influenced by much more than the sound of Grant’s group on “Alive!” Sookie, Sookie is also heavily influenced by John Scofield, Dr. Lonnie Smith, and Charlie Hunter and contains elements of Hip-Hop, Rock, and Soul. This collection of influences that spans across the boundries of traditional genres has created a new sound that is as unique as it is infectious.
