On Second Saturday, Gallery Walk Night, seven teaching artists, representing Miami and Broward public and private schools, will display their paintings at Archbishop Curley Notre Dame Prep’s Second Annual Teaching Artist Exhibit titled, “Art Transforms Lives.” Guests will have an opportunity to meet the artists and hear a special presentation by Amanda Sanfillipo of Locust Projects.

The exhibit runs through October 1, 2013. Guests are encouraged to RSVP for the Opening Reception to galleryofart@acnd.net. The Media and Community are welcome at this FREE event.

“Art transforms our lives by helping us explore the many facets of our abilities, without a worry or fear of making mistakes, or doing something incorrectly,” comments participating artist, Lorie Setton.  “Art helps us realize that there are many avenues to achievement. There is no ‘wrong answer’ in the art world (or the classroom), but there is an infinite amount of possibilities as to what we can create.”

This year’s artists are: Alena Beasley, Our Lady of the Lakes, Miami Lakes; Yunier Oliver Cervino, Archbishop Curley Notre Dame Prep, Miami; Caryne Havican Mender, ACND Gallery Manager and teacher for Miami-Dade Public Schools; Lorie Setton, David Posnak Hebrew Day School, Davie; Silvana Soriano, Arts for Learning, headquarted at the Lightbox at Goldman Warehouse in Wynwood; Catherine Wichmann, St. Anthony Catholic School, Fort Lauderdale; and Kerry Ware, St. Patrick Catholic School, Miami Beach and Ai Miami International University of Art and Design, Miami.

And, at 7:00 p.m. sharp, there will be a special presentation by neighboring gallery, Locust Projects. Amanda Sanfilippo, Development Associate will discuss the LAB high school internship program, Locust Projects history in the rapidly developing area of the Design District, and how art has "transformed" our neighborhood.

This exhibit is one of many events and programs offered by ACND Prep designed to “creatively connect” both students and others to the resources available in the art districts surrounding ACND Prep – in particular, the  Design District, Wynwood, and Downtown Miami. Each program and event is also designed to promote thought and discussion about the value of the arts in core education.
