Junior Miami Science Museum members will be utilizing their love of engineering, costume designing and carnivals to create pieces for the Cardboard Carnival at the museum. Participants and their families at this members-only event will create their own carnival rides, costumes, food stands and more out of cardboard. Miami Science Museum will provide materials, as well as snacks and refreshments.
Volunteers from Makeshop Miami, a shared resource space for tinkerers, creatives, artisans, aspiring entrepreneurs, and community seekers, will be at the event, acting as helpers/guides for the activities.
The event is being held in conjunction with the 2nd annual Global Cardboard Challenge worldwide celebration, organized by the Imagination Foundation. Inspired by the short film Caine’s Arcade, the Global Cardboard Challenge is a worldwide celebration of child creativity and the role communities can play in fostering it. Kids are challenged to create and build using cardboard, recycled materials and imagination. Oct. 5 marks the anniversary of the flash mob that came out to make Caine’s day in the short film, as well as the day that communities all around the world will come together and play!
