The United Chinese Association of Florida (UCAF) will present the 11th Annual South Florida Dragon Boat Festival at beautiful Haulover Park, Miami Beach, on Saturday, October 5th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. UCAF would like to invite everyone to join together in bringing this festive, colorful, cultural experience to life.
For those unfamiliar with dragonboat racing, a dragonboat is a large human powered boat with a minimum 18 paddlers, a drummer and a steers person paddling to cross the finish faster than their competition. It’s a team sport in its purest form that encompasses power, speed, synchronization and endurance. The roots of dragon boat racing go back over 2,000 years to the southern provinces of China.
This annual Festival brings culture, dragon boat racing, multicultural entertainment and international flavors to Miami Beach on Saturday, October 5, 2013, from 10 am to 4 pm at Haulover Park – 10800 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33154.
Over 20 Dragonboat teams from across South Florida will compete for prizes in several race divisions. The Festival starts at 10 a.m. with fun events for the whole family, including:
â— Dragonboat racing all day with over 20 teams competing from across South Florida
â— Exciting Egg Roll Eating Contest and Kite Contest
â— Live multicultural entertainment, featuring colorful Chinese Lion Dance and powerful Chinese martial arts demonstration, Japanese taiko drumming, other international musical performances, and cooking demonstration
â— Health and Fitness Exhibits, blood pressure check-ups, and information on hepatitis, heart disease, diabetes, strokes, etc.
â— Arts & Crafts, Business Services, and Informational Exhibits
â— Delicious and Authentic Asian and International Food Selection
Free, accessible and fun for all ages, the event draws thousands of visitors and residents together to celebrate a legend that dates back over 2,000 years. Haulover Park’s parking fee is $6 per vehicle.
