First there were Snails!  Then Rabbits!  Now make way for the Dogs!

Just prior to Art Basel, Gloria Porcella, gallery leader of Galleria Ca’D’Oro of Rome and Miami’s Design District is installing four huge Bulldogs at the Miami Children’s Museum.  Created by renowned Belgian artist William Sweetlove from special ecologically produced resin materials, the reddish orange and pink Bulldogs will be mounted on the roof of the Museum’s building on Watson Island on Monday, December 2 / 10:30AM.  They will be on display throughout Art Basel.

William Sweetlove thrives on the superficial putting it in contrast with reality. Through a number of variations on the same theme he creates friction between the artificial and the substantial, completely obliterating the boundaries between toy and work of art. William Sweetlove is a member of the artists’ collective “The Cracking Art Group”, in northern Italy.  As the physical medium that provides the basis for their works of art, the members use a type of plastic produced via a  thermo-chemical reaction in crude oil. This reaction, known as “cracking” is also the origin of the group’s name. In their manifesto, the Cracking Art Group call upon their members to spread a vision of the world suffused with elements of irony and ecological awareness. To those, Sweetlove adds the conviction that art must also be an antidote to overconsumption and overproduction.

The Miami Children’s Museum offers bilingual and interactive exhibits; programs and classes and learning materials related to arts, culture, community and communication.  They have 14 interactive galleries as well as housing many exciting and fun traveling exhibits.  Miami Children’s Museum (MCM) is dedicated to enriching the lives of all children by fostering a love of learning and enabling children to realize their highest potential. Through arts and educational programs, MCM seeks to include and target all audiences in Miami’s changing and diverse community by becoming the “town center” for Miami-Dade County’s children and families.
