Miami-Dade County Youth Fair Helps Raise More than 5,000 lbs. of Food to Help Replenish Miami Rescue Mission’s Communal Pantry and Feed the Homeless Through ‘Your Deal Their Meal’ Canned Food Drive
Youth Fair and Juicy’s Outlaw Grill also donate $1,000 each to further
support Miami Rescue Mission
This year the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair & Exposition came together with Miami Rescue Mission in an effort to provide food for disadvantaged residents of South Florida. The ‘Your Deal Their Meal’ canned food drive offered Youth Fair guests an opportunity to support this exceptional cause as well as receive a special discount on admission.
The food drive kickoff took place on Friday, March 14th and ran all the way through the final day of The Youth Fair, Sunday, March 30th. Guests were invited to bring two cans of food per person in order to receive a $4 discount on admission. Several collection boxes were made available at the fairgrounds. 10,000 cans, equivalent to approximately 5,000 lbs. of canned food, were donated. Displaying the gathered cans in the collection bins allowed fairgoers to see the impact their donations were making in support of the Miami Rescue Mission.
In addition to the canned food drive efforts, the Miami Rescue Mission received a donation of $1,000 from the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair & Exposition. The Miami Rescue Mission also received a $1,000 donation from this year’s top Youth Fair food concessionaire, Brett Enright, owner of Juicy’s Outlaw Grill. Mr. Enright’s donation was in addition to the dollars raised from the sale of the samples of his Guinness world record-setting hot dog.
This can food drive will provide some much-needed assistance to the Miami Rescue Mission, which supplies 950,000 nutritious meals annually and helps over 10,000 under-resourced and homeless individuals with food, furniture, clothing and other essential needs.
“It was an honor for us to have partnered with Miami Rescue Mission in hopes of raising awareness to end hunger right in our own backyard,†said Bob Hohenstein, President and CEO of The Youth Fair. “More than ever, South Florida residents are stepping up to serve their community and are realizing hunger is a reality everywhere. The entire Miami-Dade County Youth Fair family is very proud of this joint effort.â€
“This food drive was a fantastic way to enjoy The Youth Fair and also help those who are in great need. The funds raised during ‘Your Deal Their Meal’ campaign will be used to feed the hungry, as well as finance life-changing programs which will lead to transformed lives,†said Rev. Ronald Brummitt, President of Miami Rescue Mission- Broward Outreach Centers.
