Lotus House Thrift Chic Boutique & Professional and Life Skills Center Grand Opening
Lotus House will be celebrating the Grand Opening of its new designer Lotus House Thrift Chic Boutique, where those who Love to Shop can Shop to Love!, at the new location, which will also serve as the Donations Center for Lotus House. Lotus House Thrift Chic Boutique, an initiative of the Sundari Foundation, serving poor, disadvantaged and homeless women and children seeking a better life, is an essential partner with Lotus House in supporting, uplifting, and empowering women and youth to achieve greater self-sufficiency. Lotus House Thrift Chic Boutique specializes in designer, vintage, like new and gently used clothing, furnishings, collectables and more, all at beautiful prices for today’s cost conscious shopper.
The event will also mark the inauguration of the expanded Professional and Life Skills Center, which provides basic life skills and job readiness training for women and youth at Lotus House. Building on the success of its earlier Retail Job Training program, a hands on “real world†vocational training course that uses Lotus House Thrift as a working classroom, the Center will offer two brand new opportunities for vocational education: a Barista Job Training Program, in collaboration with Wynwood’s favorite Panther Coffee, and an E-Commerce Job Training Program, both of which will be in operation at the Chic Boutique and coming soon.
“Lotus House Thrift and our Professional and Life Skills Center offer us a creative way to build grassroots support and raise public awareness at the same time we empower women and youth to build the foundation for the future and a better way of life,†said Constance Collins, Lotus House Director. “The incredible support we continue to see through donations and purchases help fund the shelter’s job training programs and operations; provide basic clothing, work attire and furnishings for women and children at Lotus House; and provide innovative work development opportunities for women and youth entering the work world and on the path towards self-sufficiency to build brighter futures for themselves and their families. â€
With assistance from local community partner, Panther Coffee, the Barista Job Training program will prepare women at Lotus House to enter the barista and restaurant industry through a fast-paced work environment at the new Barista Bar, soon to be located in the new facilities. The E-Commerce Job Training will allow women and youth to apply career and life skills to the field of e-commerce via a new online retail platform, operating from Lotus House Thrift Chic Boutique. Like Lotus House Thrift, the new Barista Bar and online shopping website will be staffed entirely by Lotus House guests and alumni showcasing the exemplary work of Lotus House women as prospective employees.
Lotus House Thrift will open to the public at its new location on Saturday, May 24 at 10 a.m., and everyone is welcome for a day of shopping or to drop off donations. Receive a 10% discount on all clothing purchases with your donations at the Grand Opening! Regular hours for the thrift shop will be Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Arrangements can be made for pick-up of larger donations by emailing thrift@lotushouseshelter.org or calling the thrift shop at 305-576-4112. Donations are tax- deductible to the full extent permitted by law.
