Did you know there are fewer than 3,500 tigers left in the wild and their numbers are rapidly declining as a result of poaching and habitat destruction? Did you know there are nine sub-species of tigers and three of those have become extinct in the last 80 years and the rest are critically endangered? These are just some of the tiger facts you will learn during Tiger Awareness Week at Zoo Miami September 15 – 21. Aside from educational talks, there will be fun activities such as pie-in-the-face throwing contest (you may purchase the pies at a silent auction) from 12:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on September 15 & 19 in front of Dr. Wilde’s World. On September 20 & 21, enjoy goodies at a bake sale/lemonade table in front of our Sumatran tiger exhibit where you can also purchase buttons and get your face painted . All money raised will support the Tiger Conservation Campaign. So come on out and have a roaring good time!
