Join Matt Haggman, Miami Program Director for the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, for a community information session on the new Knight Cities Challenge.
The challenge is offering a share of $5 million for innovative ideas that answer the question: What’s your best idea to make cities more successful? We’re looking for projects at the city, neighborhood and block level – and all sizes in between – that can be put to work in one of the 26 Knight communities, which includes Miami. Ideas, which can be submitted by anyone, from anywhere, must focus on one or more of these three key drivers of city success: attracting and retaining talented people, expanding economic opportunity and creating a culture of civic engagement.
Matt will provide tips on how to craft your applications, the challenge timeline and review process, and answer just about any question you have. Representatives from Gehl Architecture will also attend to discuss ways to build more successful cities. Gehl Architecture is a global leader in rethinking spaces between city buildings; the firm has led acclaimed projects including the creation of bike paths and urban parks throughout New York City, and the redesign of New York’s Times Square.
