An evening with Author and Professor of Law, Amy D. Ronner, as she discusses her newest release, Dostoevsky and the Law, based on the great Russian novelist, Fyodor Dostoevsky, and his timeless masterpieces. By earning her place on the prestigious Author Event calendar at Books & Books Coral Gables, she joins the ranks of 200 other acclaimed authors including Hillary Clinton, who have had their In-store Reading at the same location. Through a legal lens, this book examines several of Dostoevsky’s works, including Crime and Punishment, The Double, Notes from the House of the Dead, Demons, and Brothers Karamazov, to show how they transmit relevant and timely messages about our mental capacity doctrine, confessions, legal system, and prisons.

Amy D. Ronner, PhD, JD, is a Professor of Law at St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami, Florida, where she teaches Constitutional Law, Wills and Trusts, and Criminal Procedure. In addition to her law degree from the University of Miami, she has a PhD and an MA in English Language and Literature from the University of Michigan. Ronner is also the author of several books on topics like law, literature and therapeutic jurisprudence, appellate practice, LGBT rights, and English literature. One of her books, Homophobia and the Law (American Psychological Association Books, 2005), was the recipient of an academic book award. Dr. Ronner has also published more than forty articles dealing with Dostoevsky, literature, law, therapeutic jurisprudence, criminal procedure, human rights, constitutional rights, and LGBT rights. Dr. Ronner has been a guest lecturer at Dostoevsky, Russian literature, law, mental health, and therapeutic jurisprudence conferences all over the world.
