From 1960-1962, over 14,000 unaccompanied Cuban children left their homeland in what became the largest recorded child refugee exodus in the Western Hemisphere—an event that remained essentially unknown for over 30 years. Fearing their children’s indoctrination by Fidel Castro’s newly installed socialist and revolutionary government, parents entrusted their children’s fate with government and religious organizations in the U.S. Some children would reunite with their parents quickly, others after years of separation, and still others never saw their parents again. Experience the history of this event through video testimonies by the now grown children and artifacts such as letters, photographs, and other personal items documenting the stories of what became known as “Operation Pedro Pan.” In partnership with Operation Pedro Pan Group, Inc.
