Exhibit: Flashback Fashions from the 1970’s to Today
The Art Deco Museum’s exhibit “Flashback Fashions from the 1970s to Today†invites you to travel back in time to revisit fashion fads and styles of the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and through the present day. Popular trends of the past and present are showcased featuring mannequins dressed in vintage apparel, fashion advertisements, pages from magazines such as LIFE and Vogue, and pop culture references. The exhibit also highlights two important Miami Beach contributors to the fashion world – Gianni Versace and NBC’s television show Miami Vice.
History can be chronicled in many different ways – through wars, through art, through film, through political leaders and conflicts, but also through fashion. An art form in and of itself, fashion is sometimes forgotten as a product of history itself. Fashion is very much influenced by the conditions of the times, and popular styles are constantly changing, or making comebacks. Looking forward to the future, it will be interesting to see where history will take fashion next.
