Artists to create art exhibition to protest racism.
The aftermath of this weekend’s events that left 36 peaceful protesters injured and one dead at a KKK and White Supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia has sparked local and national outcry for change. The local community of Miami based artists of color by the name of BRiCK have organized an event to promote awareness, unity and social justice.
The art and multi-media event focused on the exchange of knowledge, cooperative economics, creative expression, and continuance of the dialogue on freedom. Well known artists such as Ivette Cabrera, LaToya “Swarmmode” Mathis, Blackbrain, Steelshadow, Courtney Harris and Olandland will be exhibiting controversial artworks as well as large scale interactive art installations that will encourage visitors to take part in the movement to end racism.
“BRiCK is an event that is focused on what we believe to be the main principles of creating the foundation for progressive change for People of Color within our community: cooperative economics, education, health and wellness, celebration-of-self and culture, and community outreach and exchange by creatives and intellectuals.”
This will be an art and PoC entrepreneur showcase featuring local businesses and artists of the South Florida community. It will also entail a panel discussion/live taping of Rock the Shell, a web series focused on discussing and building awareness of issues surrounding race, class, and gender. T he panel discussion will also include an artists talk on artworks in the exhibition, the artistic process and how their art encourages change.
Each ticket sale will include a raffle ticket to win artworks throughout the night and portion of proceeds will go to help benefit the victims of the Charlottesville attack.
Come out and help us fight oppression by taking part in the conversation for change!
