In his Epoch exhibit, nationally-acclaimed environmental artist and Pinecrest Gardens’ first artist-in-residence, Xavier Cortada portrays life that has existed on our planet over the past 500 million years and invites the audience to ponder what life forms will inhabit the earth in the future. Conversations and thoughts on time, growth, and extinction will be brought to light as a result of Cortada’s unique interpretation of the individual’s adaptations or lack-thereof. As we move through the current epoch, the Anthropocene, humans themselves are changing the global climate and Earth’s ecosystems. Our reckless emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, along with our extensive use of pesticides, our endless yearning for fertile land, and our unyielding population growth are greatly accelerating the rate of extinction of our fellow species. This exhibit is free and open to the public. Exhibit runs November 30, 2017 through January 14, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday in the historic Hibiscus Gallery at Pinecrest Gardens, 11000 SW Red Road, Pinecrest, FL 33156.
