Learn to capture the best of what’s in bloom at the Garden. This class will review the best camera settings to create different interpretative flower images in the garden. It will teach shallow focus and hyper focal techniques to create botanical art of the flora at Fairchild. Different lighting techniques to produce dramatic images will be used and there will be a review of the work of famous flower photographers, while exploring their different techniques. Time in the field will be used to learn how to manage the subject, use the correct approach and effectively compose the image. For this class students should be familiar with their camera’s basic exposure and focus controls as it will not cover basic camera operations. Sturdy tripods and cameras with interchangeable lenses or point-and-shoot cameras with close-up settings and user-adjustable settings are strongly recommended. A 90mm or longer macro lens is highly desirable. If you do not own a macro lens, you will need a good close-up lens (one that allows you to fill your frame with subjects four inches in length). Telephoto zooms such as a 70-300mm or 70-200mm work very well in the Garden. Telephoto lenses such as 300mm also are recommended. One afternoon class on Saturday, December 9
