Scientists warn sea level rise is accelerating around the globe. Learn about how it will affect South Florida at the premiere of “Antarctic Ice Paintings: Global Coastlines and Underwater HOA” exhibit, featuring 60 untitled, never-shown-before paintings created by leading environmental artist, Xavier Cortada, while on a National Science Foundation Antarctic Artists and Writers Program fellowship. In Antartica, Cortada learned from scientists that the very ice sheets he was using for his art would eventually drown his beloved city. The Antarctic Ice Paintings exhibition debuts on November 8, 2018 and will run thru January 13, 2019. General consuls will be invited to help name the 60 paintings, which represent other coastal communities threatened by rising sea levels. This exhibit is part of a larger participatory art project titled “Underwater HOA” scheduled to take place this coming December during Art Basel in collaboration with the Village of Pinecrest. It is free and open to the public. Stop by 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday & Sunday, in the Hibiscus Gallery at Pinecrest Gardens, located at 11000 Red Road.
