Florida Counts Census 2020 has partnered with Sant La Haitian Community Center, the Miami-Dade Haitian Complete Count Committee (HACCC) and their community partners, in a “Karavan Census” on Sunday, September 20 from 1-7 p.m. The Karavan route will pass by neighborhoods in Opa-Locka, North Miami and Little Haiti. The goal for this event is to encourage residents in these communities to complete their census before the September 30 deadline.
The event will include a Rara Band, a party float truck and a mobile billboard flashing messages in Creole and English about the importance of the Census. “Break the Cycle” bicycle club will lead the Karavan through Opa-Locka. Staff from the Census Bureau will participate and distribute giveaways to attendees. Community leaders and census Bureau staff will be on site and equipped with computer tablets to help people complete their census. This event will respect all Miami-Dade County requirements for social distancing, masks and participant behavior.
The Karavan will start in Opa-Locka at 115th St. to the north, North West Seventh Avenue to NW 17th Ave. to the east and NW 135th St. to the south. It will then travel to North Miami Beach, Starting at Uleta on 167th St., North East Third Avenue, stopping at North Miami Beach Library on 164th St. NE 16th Ave., stopping at City Hall on 17011 NE 19th Ave. and moving west towards West Dixie Highway. It will move to Little Haiti, traveling on NW 62nd Street – North West Second Avenue until it arrives at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex on 59th Terrace.
