Troy Roberts’ NU-JIVE is the convening of five soulful beings and world-class musicians, who take the listener on a creative journey through the architecture of Troy’s original compositions. The music is an eclectic, yet head-bopping concoction of Soul, Funk, R&B, and Gospel music – all musically glued together by each member’s deep sense of Jazz etiquette. This group of five best friends have been a steady recording and performing unit for the best part of 10 years! NU-JIVE’s well-established reputation for pushing musical boundaries is stronger than ever. PERFORMER BIO:
Hailing from the remote location of Perth, West Australia, saxophonist Troy Roberts has received numerous accolades including three DownBeat SM Jazz Soloist Awards, two Grammy Nominations, and was a semi-finalist in the 2008 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition.
In 2012, he shared the stage in an international septet comprising jazz giants Wayne Shorter, Richard Bona, Vinnie Colaiuta, and Zakir Hussein for Herbie Hancock’s launch of International Jazz Day at The UN, NYC. He was also part of Hancock’s 2014 International Jazz Day held in Osaka, Japan performing with jazz luminaries such as Marcus Miller, Roy Hargrove, Esperanza Spalding, and John Scofield. As a long-time New York City resident and featured artist and sideman on over fifty recordings, Troy maintains a busy performance and recording schedule around the globe with some of the greatest jazz artists of today and is currently celebrating his thirteenth release as a leader, ‘Best Buddies’ (Toy Robot Music).
