Power Access, the non-profit organization that produces the annual South Beach Jazz Festival (SBJF), in association with The Rhythm Foundation, is excited to announce the full line-up for the 6th Annual South Beach Jazz Festival, January 7-9, 2022. Highlighted by multi-Grammy® award-winning legends The Blind Boys of Alabama in their exclusive Florida appearance on Friday, January 7, at the North Beach Bandshell in Miami Beach. The evening will be enhanced by National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master 2022, Donald Harrison, with his quartet direct from New Orleans.
The 2x Grammy® award and Latin Grammy® award winner Gonzalo Rubalcaba will be making his Miami debut as a duo with Latin Grammy® award winner Aymee Nuviola at the Faena Theater on January 6, 2022, together as “An Evening with Aymee and Gonzalo.” This extraordinary concert is a pre-festival event.
The festival is also proud to offer two full days of exciting free concerts on Lincoln Road Saturday and Sunday, January 8th and 9th. The Power Access Main Stage will showcase the Latin Jazz from Negroni Trio, South Florida’s favorite Jazz violinist Nicole Yarling and her Quintet, Hot Jazz of The French Horn Collective, and The Ross Spiegel Organ Group.
In their long-awaited return to Miami Beach, the one-hundred-member Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida will close Saturday’s program.
On Sunday, the festival will conclude with the introduction of multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer Munir Hossn leading his all-female backing ensemble de Elas with his world mix of progressive Brazilian Jazz.
The festival also proudly serves as a showcase for the next generation of Jazz talent at the Jazz for Tomorrow Student Stage on Saturday, January 8th. The program features The Miami Lighthouse Youth Band, the Jazz Educators Community Coalition Ensemble (JECC), The University of Miami Jazz Quintet featuring Kaleen Barton, and the exciting Florida Memorial University (FMU) Jazz Royalty Ensemble, a twenty-person Big Band experience.
By showcasing highly acclaimed and diverse musicians of all abilities in the programming throughout the weekend, The South Beach Jazz Festival promotes its mission of awareness, accessibility, and inclusion in the arts. On January 7-9, 2022, the sounds of Jazz will enliven the city of Miami Beach all weekend long and draw locals and guests from around the world to listen, linger and enjoy. From living legends of Gospel music to Jazz masters, the South Beach Jazz Festival has pulled together local, regional and global talent in an all-star line-up for the 2022 event.
