We’re very excited to welcome Brooklyn’s Rubblebucket to the Funky Biscuit on Thursday, October 25th! Achieving widespread respect as one of the most hyped bands on the circuit by mixing psychedelic indie rock, upbeat dance and radiant, left-field arrangements, this is a band that must be seen live. The eclectic seven-piece hit the festival scene hard this year including sets at Bonnaroo and Catskill Chill, and made their debut late night TV appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Catch them now at the intimate Funky Biscuit before they’re filling theaters. The Resolvers will get things started with their unique brand of ‘Big Band Reggae’.
Rubblebucket: Led by the musical couple of front woman Kalmia Traver and bandleader/trumpeter Alex Toth, Rubblebucket has spent the last four years building a reputation as a band that blurs the lines between psychedelic indie rock, upbeat dance, and radiant, left-field arrangements. The band’s 2011 album “Omega La La†marked a milestone for Rubblebucket. Recorded at Plantain/DFA Studios with Producer Eric Broucek (LCD Soundsystem, Cut Copy)) the band dipped into everything from dancey indie-pop arrangements to Fela-Kuti inspired afro-beat stomps. The record has earned a wealth of praise, with Paste Magazine calling it “instrumentally rich but catchy enough to ass-kick Katy Perry off the pop charts (in a just world)—mega-melodic without sacrificing an ounce of atmosphere or creativity. Rubblebucket has graced the stage at Bonnaroo, All Good, High Sierra, moe.down, Catskill Chill, and many other festivals. In June 2012 they made their debut late night TV appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live and they celebrated the release of a new EP “Oversaturated†in September. The Resolvers: Hailing from South Florida, The Resolvers play ‘Big Band Reggae.’ As the name implies, the new sound draws influences from classic Jamaican Reggae, Rocksteady and Ska along with American Rock, Jazz, Funk and Soul. Their live show has been described as explosive with up to ten musicians on stage including five singers and the “Dirty Hamsa Horn Starsâ€, a powerful four-piece horn section. Each individual member brings their personal influences and inspirations to the collective sound. To brother & sister vocalists Ojay and Sahara Smith, reggae music is a family legacy. Their father, Ernie Smith, is the well-known Jamaican reggae singer who penned classics such as "Duppy Gunman" and “Bend Downâ€, among others. The Resolvers new album, Big Band Reggae (March 2012) debuted at Number 5 on the Billboard Reggae Charts and completely erases any notion of what you thought reggae music was capable of. The Resolvers have shared the stage with The Wailers, Stephen Marley, Damian Marley, Inner Circle, Yellowman and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry along many other world renowned acts in major International festivals such as Marley Fest, Jamaican Jazz & Blues Fest, SunFest, AURA Music & Arts Festival, Dub Fest and more. www.TheResolvers.com
